Balancing My Boat

Looking for a little help from you guys. After adding the kicker to my boat, it now has a list to it so I’m looking for some ideas to balance it.

All 4 of my batteries are in the center console and I do not have much for options for offsetting batteries to do this. Is there anything you guys can think of?

A stripper pole and platform mounted on the rear starboard would probably work.

Also could double as a trolling tree, as well as flag pole, along with ski pylon, external gps puck at top out of harms way, get a workout in between trolling runs, makeshift lightning rod, makeshift tetherball; make it removable for boat jousting, poking stuff, romantic gandola rides, swordfighting,
and most importantly….when you catch that 50″ laker you can pull that thing out and ride the ponyhappy!

Maybe move some of your heaviest stuff, like anchor, tools, spare prop, cooler, etc.

    Trim Tabs!

Dean, I’ve been considering trim tabs for a while now. It doesn’t solve the problem when I’m not on plane. If I end up getting the boat balanced out, it will give me less reason to get trim tabs.

    I appreciate the ideas.

Cooler is fixed on the floor at the helm.

Anchors are definetly an option. It’ll take some thinking though. There really isn’t much storage to begin with so I really don’t have another place to put them. I’ll have to consider it.

I’m just looking for brainstorm ideas at this point.

    Thanks

Without moving the batteries it might be tough….How much does the kicker weigh?

Not quite sure. In the range of 90lbs ID guess.

I’m thinking of how I could get the starting battery out of the console and somewhere on the starboard side.

The picture basically shows all the storage I have. Maybe I can get something in the gunnel.

I know this will sound like a dumb question, can you move the kicker to the other side???? if not, why? just curious to as why you put it where you did,or was the other side the heavier side to begin with.

The boat is well balanced without it. I think the motor is causing all of the list. There is a swim ladder on the other side that I really didn’t consider moving. Not sure that would make any difference other than making it list the other way.

no fun having a boat that list’s to one side,so I will offer this as a temporary fix, what do take with you on a regular basis that might be enough to offset it?? tackle, coolers, and the like?
can you put a battery or two on the opposite side, and have new cables made of proper length and gage?this would be a permanent fix, plus you could stow something else where the batteries were originally, just make sure it isnt something that will conduct electricity if it were upset in rough water, and will not suffer from corrosion if placed there.

Same problem in my boat. I have my tank of a charger on opposite side of kicker which helped a little.

Does the boat balance out better when the livewell is filled?

I haven’t noticed. I’ll have to find out. Good idea.

The only problem is that it’s located at the console.

110 qt cooler filled with ice and beer. Or how about a second kicker?

    Yeah I got nothing.

The wife can fight it all she wants, but my idea is the only legitimate one at this point……

There is a swim ladder on the other side that I really didn’t consider moving.

Since you said ladder and not platform, I would suggest adding a single side platform and use a blast box or water jug on the platform. There are a few boats up at the marina that used the blast box to solve the kicker issue. If you still want the ladder you can get a platform with ladder too.

Just had a conversation this weekend with a fella that strapped their gas cans to them while running to Isle Royal then filled the cans with water to provide the needed blast after they added the fuel.

Mark, actually it is a platform. Did you mean ballast? This actually came to mind today as I was reading replies.

Maybe stand to one side of the center counsel to balance the boat…

Kind of like shaking the hand line reel to untangle the mess tongue
