What is the size of the reel that is being used by those who fish with a baitrunner? Is it much heavier than typical reels of the same size? Is it OK for regular jigging if you want to use the same rod with the baitrunner?

    Size 20 Okuma Avenger.

It is a long reel if that makes sense. The body of the reel makes it much longer than a standard reel. I don’t know if you would really like it for jigging. It is really a specific application.

John is spot on. The baitrunner part of the reel makes it stick out towards the back a little more and it is a little heavier as well. If you had to, you could use it for jigging obviously, but almost all I would think only use it specifically as their set line.

Here’s a photo showing the Okuma ABF20 next to a 500 series reel.
The Okuma is on the right. 500 Sedona is on the left. Most of the size difference is to the rear where the bait runner mechanism is located.

You could jig with a baitrunner reel but only as a last resort.

Appreciate the reel size comparisons, thanks James. Keep up the hard work to put out awesome shows.
