Just curious on what you guys have hanging on the butt end of your rods. I was primarily a Shimano guy and still use the old green Curados and gold Calcuttas. Recently, I’ve tried a Daiwa Tatula and a Lew’s reel. They are all good reels. How do you guys do it? One brand or a mix? How about those Twins!

Mixed guy here. Use to be all Green Curado’s but as they died I tried various new curado’s and didn’t like them as well. Mostly used AbuGarcia Revo’s After that . Currently have a mix of 3 or 4 different models. Going to buy a new Daiwa Tatula this year and give it a try

I am a brand loyal guy with all fishing gear and products in general. I went from Quantum to Daiwa.

    How about those Rays!

Shimano. I did buy a Tatula last year and am lukewarm on it. I think as I use it more it will feel more comfortable.

Those old green curado Bantam’s are bulletproof. I am on my third set of gears in one of them. I brand mix because I think different companies build better reels in certain years. Recently I picked up some Okuma’s. I really like the Tatula’s reels though.

My all time favorites are the quantum tour additions.

Love the light weight of the exo and smoke, but find I need more dedicated reels. L9oking to play with some other reels. Tried a few Lews and was very disappointed. Felt too low end entry level like to me

Diawa, shimano,Lews, Abu all serve me. Last spring I picked up a 40 dollar kast king Spartacus off amazon.I was really surprised. Used it regularly last season and it did well, casts great, smooth drags

All my bait casting reels are Shimano. I have used Diawa, Abu, and Pflueger bait casting reels in the past, but they didn’t stay on my rods for very long. I need to buy a new reel for the rod I am making myself and I am not sure what to go with. I have heard so many good things about the Daiwa Tatula. But I am not sure if I am sold on it after looking at it in the store.

So I’m not the only one still running some green Curados!

I can’t recall the last baitcaster I bought.

I am a big fan of the Diawa Tatula so i run those for all but my musky setups. On those i have a Diawa Lexa 400 and a Shimano calcutta 400b. Been a big fan of those too.

I still have 2 going and I found one unused one on CL still in the box. I will be putting it on a rod. But the more rods you get = the more reels you need. I am seeing now that Shimano went away from their VBS. So I am going to give Daiwa a try.

Have used Shimano, Lews, and Quantum and none of them compare to the Daiwa Tatulas. The smoothness, the T wing system and the brakes are pretty much unbeatable in my opinion. I have been phasing my other reels out with Tatulas for the last couple years. Haven’t had a single problem with them in 2 years of fishing 3-5 days a week.

I still have 2 green Curados in the rotation. Even have an old Citica that is decent. Just lubed em up for another year.

Anything skipping I use a Daiwa SV, all else Shimano Curado 70 (no better palmable reel IMO). If your budget is $100 then Lews LFS.

Mostly Team Daiwa, but I have a Revo Rocket and Lew’s Tournament MG that I won in contests that I like and use.

I stick to Shimano reels primarily for self maintenance since I started with them. Actually I started with Shakespeare reels. It just seems to me that cleaning, dissembling, and reassembling Shimano reels are just easier. Things do change since manufactures do make new reels as times goes. They also adopt certain features or drop others.

Shimano and Diawa have their own manufacturing plants.

Abu’s and Lews uses the same manufacturing plants so their reels often share the same components internally.
