Baitcaster-Line Counter Clicker Questions

If anyone would be willing to share information on the clicker feature for baitcaster-line counter reels I’d be appreciative.

I’m very familiar with spinning reels and have used baitcasting reels for cast/retrieve but recently bought some with the line counter feature. I used these for the first time last weekend pulling spinning rigs for walleyes. The two reels I have are the Abu Garcia Max DLC (3 of these) and the Scheels/Okuma Convector LP Line Counter (one of these). I understand the drag, and Line Counter features on both. I’m not familiar with the clicker option. Is this similar to a spinning reel baitfeeder, where once with bait is out you can turn this on and get an audible notification on a bite/snag? Can you adjust the tension?

I did a fair amount of google/youtube and didn’t have much lukc with answers. Of course I threw away the boxes and manuals from purchase last year as I thought they would be easy to find online. Live and learn…

The way I have used this feature on Lake Superior when trolling is to loosen your drag to the point of almost slipping and turn on the clicker. When you get a hit the clicker will let you know that line is being pulled out of the reel.

    ^^^^^^ BINGO ^^^^^^^

If you run multiple lines the clicker lets you know whats going on if you have the rod in a holder while checking other rods.

When you find the first submerged tree with a crank bait while your not watching you’ll know the reason of the clicker

I use it when trolling to help set lines, the clicker will keep it tight, but still let the board take out line, while I’m setting another line. I also will use it when a fish is on one line, to let a board on another line drop back to get it out of the way. Helps a bunch when fishing solo..
