I feel like we hear this every year and yet every year the bait shops have everything you could want…this story just gets posted to help small bait shops, which i’m fine with…

I was wondering that myself. All my local shops are stocked up

Hardware Hank in Zimmerman had shiners and suckers yesterday when I was there. One customer wanted bigger suckers most of theirs were medium and some were pretty big. I can’t believe the size of suckers some people want. Using min owls that big would be a pain in the @ss to me.
They had leeches also various sizes.

Not way up north. We didnt have shiners last year on opener. Fatheads work but shiners are easier to handle for sure.

The simple solution to this bait issue is to use artificial lures. Those don’t run out.

We use everything including plastics but prefer to use what works best.

This is what you would call clickbait.

    No pun intended.

Suzuki seen on High banks resorts that they had spot tail shiners. Probably worth a call thought I seen that you stayed and fished in that area.

Have a friend who traps leeches and he has been struggling to get any consistency in his traps. Been hearing the same from other trappers as well. As for spot tails they will be in high demand and with limited supply the prices will be a little on the high side I would assume. Luckily I picked up a real nice lb of large leeches at Fletchers a week ago. The early leech catches are usally the hardiest and last the longest.

That doesn’t count… Fleet is always out of everything!

I’ll have rods rigged with live bait jigs for shiners/rainbows/fatheads along with jigs for plastics. I’d rather catch them on plastics!

I just hope I can get some worms, so I can catch sheepshead, that’ll catch some flatheads.

    It’s flathead opener! grin

No bait available. Don’t go fishing.

Other alternative activities to try for the weekend:

-weed and feed your lawn so you can mow it more often
-filling plastic bags with gasoline to combat the fuel shortage
-test drive a Ford Bronco Sport
    -grease your trailer balls
    -watch the Twins
-buy some lumber to burn for kindling

Anyone know why they can’t farm leeches? Keep the supply constant and make them easier to catch.

I swung into Runnings in St. Cloud today, they had golden shiners, no spot tails and the sign said they get bait from fletchers. They were well stocked on fishing stuff though. Going to swing into Stoplight tomorrow to see what they have. Nice pull eelput, remember I put $20 in so I get half or are you still down after that pull!

Fish the WI side and use those walleyes. They aren’t lively enough for live bait but work great for cut. peace

I got bait this morning and I think for the first time ever a dozen leeches was the same price as a dozen spot tails, $9.99!
