Hey I am trying a bit south on the st croix today from my usual haunts. I am traveling east from south metro (apple Valley) and will be launching out of Prescott, what are my options for bait shops on the way. Thanks in advance

x2 They usually have your basic river terminal tackle, along with lures

Bait: fatheads, suckers (med size), sometimes creeks, sometimes shiners, leeches and night crawlers.

PLUS fishing fluids even on sundays!

If anyone has a more recent update on minnows share it, its been a month since I have been there.

Be prepared for outrageous launch fees in Prescott. If it were me I’d launch in Hastings and travel down.

I ended up hitting the BP mentioned, got a few minnows and some crawlers. I think a bait shop could survive in that area, but it worked out fine. Except all of the fish we caught were on cranks

The yearly non-res pass there is still a good deal. UNLIKE Hudson.

It’d really be a tough go in the winter there, not many lakes around and too few people fish the river there in the winter to be worth while. Seen a few bait shops come and go in the Hastings/Prescott area.

Yea, I suppose the winter would be a killer. I am a fan of the bait shop/gas station/liquor store combo, which is basically what that BP in Prescott is, just wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more fishing stuff.

Good to hear. One of my go-to summer activities is nice sheepies on week nights with jig and plastic. It’s fun. And sometimes you get a junk smallie! mrgreen

I don’t know what the current prices are, but I remember the last time I was down there a few years ago it was in the range of $10 for the day. To me and everyone in the group, that is outrageous for something that doesn’t require constant supervision. I don’t get down there enough to worry about a yearly pass.

Yeah, I’m guessing it was somewhere along those lines a couple years ago as well.

Has this landing had any state/DNR money spent on it? If it has the launch fee is SUPPOSED to go back in to maintaining the landing. They can’t charge at the landing and use the money on other parks for playground equipment, picnic tables, etc., etc.

The problem is the DNR doesn’t enforce the law about this.

I buy the season pass every year. And it pays for itself no problem. I agree the non res fee is a little high but o well what do ya do. If you plan on going down 5 times just go get the season pass.
