About to pull the trigger on some Baffin Eigers for this year’s ice season, but I’ve been reading several reviews that they’re not waterproof, as advertised. I’ve searched every thread I can find on IDO. Nothing has really been discussed regarding your feet staying dry. Anyone have any experience/input, or a different direction I should go? Thanks!

I have the Impacts and the only parts that are truly “waterproof” are the lowers(bottom 3″ on mine)…the leather and nylon section are water-resistant….
I put “never-wet” waterproofing spray on mine and, unless I was standing in 8″ of standing water all day,my feet would stay dry I’m thinking……
No troubles for me so far…..

    Results may vary grin

leather and nylon section are water-resistant

This statement will always be true regardless of model or manufacturer, even Gore Tex. How water resistant is the question? What has to be done to either make them better or keep them very highly water resistant?

If they aren’t great out of the box or need a refresher here’s what I would do:

First: Apply SnoSeal to the leather. Been working on my Sorel’s for many years. Just need to reapply from time to time.
Second: Seal the non-leather seams. Many seam sealer products on the market
Third: Clean the fabric and apply a waterproofing treatment. Nikwax works for me but there are other good ones out there.

I have the titans, 100% waterproof. Rubber doesn’t leak unless you put a hole in them.

Do your bibs fit over them?

I wore the Baffin Apex last winter and they were very dry even with the leather uppers.

    I’ll give my .02 worth…..
Waterproofing has been OK with me so far…..
Yes they are big-bulky boots, but I have a pair Frabill and Carharrt Extreme Bibs and they both fit over my Impacts…
They are nice and warm, but I have had other boots that were warm…..
But thing that I love about mine the most is the weight……I have never had a warm boot that was this light…and to me that is a big deal…..
All day and it’s like wearing sneakers……
    I’ll recommend them anytime grin

I highly recommend boots with leather uppers. Mine are a legacy model with leather uppers that are about 10 years old. They are only now starting to leak. Mainly because I haven’t sealed them in about 4 years.

By leak I mean that my feet are actually getting wet. They have never been wet in these boots, ever. Until now.

Thanks for the tips, guys. James, with the Apex, did your Striker bibs fit over the boot?
