I’m with ya B98TA. Conference championships often don’t offer teams anything to gain but everything to lose. Wisconsin could be undefeated and in line for a playoff spot but then lose the championship and thus the playoff spot. Notre Dame doesn’t have to worry about that, which is just stupid. On that note…I know there’s always lots of Notre Dame bashing in this world and I’m not trying to start that, but I’m guessing it’s easier at least for ND to make money, right? They’re not dividing profits to subsidize the lower-performing schools in their conference because there is none.

i hate ND but to be honest, they face the hardest gauntlets year after year. this year its almost a ranked team every week. so while they dont’ have a championship to participate in they don’t have a lot of cupcakes either.

ND has a deal with nbc thats all their own. there is no profit sharing and i believe they aim to keep it that way. if the committee snubs them a few years here and htere, that might change.

Wisconsin can only beat the teams on their schedule and its not their fault that the teams they’ve beaten thus far are terrible. BYU at home is typically a formidable opponent… this might be the worst BYU team of all time. Schedules are set years in advance so you can’t know who will be good when they schedule them. Hawk fans went through this in 2015 with people bashing their schedule… you play the games in front of you and all you can do is win. Like Wisconsin this year, Iowa didn’t dominate every team on their schedule so people had doubts. If Wisconsin wins out, they will be in. And they’ll have beaten a ranked Iowa, Michigan, and probably Ohio State on their way. So they’ll have their chance.

All that being said… I don’t think they’ll win out. Sorry Bucky. Not because they aren’t good but because they are about to play much more stiff competition and those injuries are going to catch up eventually. (that is really poor luck btw… feel for you there)

Notre Dame is an interesting case. I agree with hnd, they play a really tough schedule and everyone wants to beat ND. If they survive that with only a 1 point loss to the #1 team in the country, they better be in the playoff. I don’t think that will come at the cost of an undefeated Wisconsin either. Now if Wisky loses to Iowa, Michigan, or Minnesota(lol) but wins the BIG championship… then they might get left out. And while I hate the SEC and Notre Dame… it would be hard to make a case that Wisconsin is better than Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Clemson this year. Oh and don’t forget about Oklahoma too…

The defense absolutely smothered Iowa. I mean those guys were flying around. I’d be shocked if they had 100 yards of offense for the game. They need to tune up the offense a bit on the turnovers but that was a dominant performance against a top 25 team….

right now they’ll look at h2h and for all intents and purporses it looks like OU would railroad the badgers in my opinion. so i imagine ou gets the 4 spot. but like this week shown, anyone is vulnerable.

i think the badgers make short work of my wolverines this week. it they can beat 3 ranked opponents in their last 4 weeks (including last week) and win big, i think they’ve made a pretty convincing case.

the pac 12 is out of the picture completely at this point. auburn is going to give bama all they can handle, clemson miami at this point get a spot if they both make it the rest of the way with no losses, the winner of the ACC is a lock.

the thing that is interesting is if GA and Bama face each other with no other losses, and GA wins, would both get in.

i think there are only really 5 teams at this point in the mix. but that will change next week lol.

Clemson and Miami will basically take care of each other. If Miami beats clemson, they have 2 losses and are out. If Clemson beats Miami in the title game, I think they’re out (we’re not talking a SEC title game here).

If Bucky wins out, they should have 3 wins over ranked opponents in the last 4 weeks which changes some of the narrative about their schedule. OSU will be back in the top 10 by then as well, which would give them a win over a top 10 (still a lot of assumptions that WI wins out and wins the Big 10. OSU is their kryptonite, and the qb can’t stop throwing picks).

If they win out, I think they get in considering their last 4 games.

yeah as i said, i thikn there are only 5 contenders at this point. if wisky loses, bama loses, it will get crazy.

To start with, I believe in our defense… against anyone right now, even the fast teams. In fact I would start with my defense on the field right now if I won the coin toss!!! Our Offense, now that’s another story. I think that Jonathon Taylor was the wildcard no one ever envisioned at the outset. So if Hornibrook and Taylor can both get rid of the turnovers, we could stand a chance against a lot of folks.

I really am convinced that WI can beat a pair of tough teams the next two weekends. That puts them in to the title game (likely OSU) where the defense is going to want to change the last outcome of the 59-0 route. Not sure if we can duplicate the Hawkeye game plan in the title game, but it sure worked in Kinnick two weeks ago.

That takes us to the final four… I agree that the Pac-12 is done unless a lot of wild stuff happens. TCU and Oklahoma, especially Oklahoma has chances to get in if they win out, though their defense is very suspect. Miami and Clemson… one of them is done if they meet in the ACC championship game which I think is the deal.

That leaves an Alabama team which isn’t really that good this year and their two best starting defensive players are hurting pretty bad. I think Auburn has a real chance to get them yet this year too. So that leaves Alabama, Auburn and Georgia from the SEC.

So Auburn, Clemson, Oklahoma and WI… are my early picks right now… and yes I am Badger Red Biased, if it wasn’t the deer opener this weekend, I was in Madtown last weekend and would go scalp a ticket for this weekend and might even make the trip to Minne for that one…

I am still a little concerned over the defensive secondary. Purdue completed a couple passes to receivers who were wide open. Indiana missed several receivers also wide open and Iowa never really tested up deep, but did miss a couple passes to receivers who had a step on the defender. As long as we can keep up the strong pass rush it will be good. However better teams are not going to let that happen so much.

Agree 100% with mbenson. Great defense and very good running game. Taylor has to do better securing the ball and Hornibrook has to make the easy throws and not throw picks. If WI runs the table they should get in. It would make the decision easy if quarterback play these next three games is just solid, it doesn’t have to be great, just solid. Win out and things should take care of themselves, lose 1 and we’ll never know.

I agree. Beat Michigan first and then worry about MN.
There is no one I’d rather see beaten Than J Harbaugh. U Meyer is 2nd on that list.

I’m not looking past any one… especially a MN team that just mopped up on Nebraska!!! But MI is first and like I said if it weren’t for deer opener, I’d be in the Camp Randall!!!

I usually don’t say much, so me going out on a limb has to have a good feel. Hey we could still get to Indy and lay an egg!!!

Defense wins championships. And with the Badger’s defense they can beat anyone in the country. It might not be pretty but it wins games.

Make the tournament and get blasted by Georgia or Alabama is my prediction.

They are not a very good team. Cupcake schedule and a shaky qb. I’m not convinced they win out

I still don’t know how anybody that’s not drunk or high could say they’re not a very good team. Pass the bong.

No prediction here but it sure would be great to see the badgers in the BCS. No dominate teams this year so it’s anyone’s opportunity
