Spent from July 3rd till July 6th fishing areas of the backwaters of pool 5… chasing pike and bass..water at the time was still high and dirty making finding active fish tough…after putting in some hours I located a small area that seemed to hold enough clean water to give the fish an opportunity to locate my bait (frog)… fishing got better every day so I’m guessing in about a week things should shape up real nice for top water fishing…

Nice looking fish! It’s always fun to put in the time and get rewarded with nice fish, and when you catch them in top water it’s kind of like a bonus!

I’ve had good look on firetiger during muddled water situations. Pike are sight orientated. BTW I’m surprised you got that pike in so shallow during July, in NY the waters at 74.5 and you won’t get a toothy critter longer than 24″ any shallower than 12 to 18 feet, or deeper.

Thats what I love about the mighty ms … conditions change almost daily …we have had some serious high dirty for most of June and July…which means fish are … were tucked in…shallow and out of current…best pike day was last Sunday..lots of bait fish..cleaner water less than 5feet…half dozen…biggest going 32….

I love it when they are packed in shallow, makes finding them simpler. Sounds like you had a nice day fishing. Our peak days are past “ended in early – mid June” so I troll at (25 to 35) feet or cast off the deep weeds at ~ (12 to 18) feet. Usually this produces a couple of fish until Oct when the waters < 65 degrees. Then they start packing in right off the weeds. One issue is the pike are to deep to simultaneously fish for LMBass and Pike like I can do earlier in the season.
