Backup Marcum

I had to recently send in my 10 year old LX5 for service work. It is my wife’s unit and now we are down to our LX6 but makes it difficult to fish and impossible to hole hop. Enough rambling. My question is for a backup unit is it worth spending the extra 120 for the LX3I over the LX1I?

What do you mean by impossible to hole hop? I’m not bragging or trying to be a jerk, but alot of people hole hop with LX6 and 7’s. Is it a weight or size issue? I’ve never owned an LX5. Just wondering.

I think he was trying to say that it’s impossible to hole hop when two are fishing and sharing one unit (lx6).

Didn’t think of that simple little idea. Thanks.

No because with 1 finder with 2 people and the wife stays in the shack. I normally hole hop with my LX6, but not possible to have 1 finder in two spots at the same time:) Thus the reason I want a backup unit.

I won’t comment on whether it’s worth the 120 more for the lx3I vs the vx, but I have a lx3I and an lx3tc. The lx3I is much clearer and easier to view. Works great for my boys and I. I took two of them out fishing a couple weekends ago and I couldn’t hole hope because they both wanted to use one that left me with nothing. -)

Would you consider a Marum Ice Trolder 2 with a performance pack as back up??

These are compact and easy to use and often overlooked

I did think about that, but don’t really know anything about them.

The troller 2 is compact very efficient with battery easy to use and light weight.

Con would be maybe not a rugged as the LX5

Go with the lx3. At least you will have a moveable zoom which is a nice function. I use an lx3 as a back up unit and I love it.

Given you had to send in your 10 year old unit for service, I’d be thinking about having that one as your back up and get another LX6 or 7 as your primary.

I have the same problem when I bring my girlfriend fishing, she always wants my flasher. I’m keeping an eye out for something cheap did her to use. I like my lx3, lots on Craigslist for 200 to 250$
