I’ve never owned a Marcum so can’t comment on the usability but I’m pretty sure parts like transducers and power cords are compatible between all marcum flashers except for the VX-1 and showdowns. Because of that I’d stick with the 3 or 5 for redundancy.

I have and love the LX-5 but a LX-3 would work just fine as a back up and save some $$$ !

a buddy fishes the 1 and it does great. In my opinion, the other ones might be more fun, but I’m not convinced they catch you more fish.

Not it my own experience. A little work with the IR buttons and you will be good to go.

I’ve been running the vx-1 for several years.
I still prefer to use it over a digital screen, though each has their time and place.

    Definitely a good unit for a guest/friend.etc

Can’t go wrong with with any of them. If you are comfortable spending the extra from the 1 to 3 I’d go with the 3, it has plenty of features for a backup unit and the adjustable zoom is very helpful if you fish crappies or suspended fish. If you want to have identical units and don’t mind spending the extra money the 5 would be nice. If money isn’t an object at all, get yourself a 7 and use your 5 as the backup!!

I used the 1 for a few years and loved it. The only reason I upgraded was to get GPS on the same unit. You won’t be disappointed at all in the 1 it’s a great unit for the price.
