Background Check Delay

I imagine big box attorneys and the potential merge with BPS last year may have had things fairly restrictive in the policy department.

They had signs up stating that they will not be merging with or being bought by bps. Which I am for one glad about, not crazy about the store but would like to have options. Wish there was a Sheels closer to me.

The law is if they don’t get a deny in three business days they can transfer it

15 or so years ago I bought a .17 HMR from a small shop in Hutchinson. I was delayed. They told me the same thing. If they don’t hear form them, it’s cleared to sell.

Then again, when my mother was in the hospital I was checking on a portion of the billing and they claimed they couldn’t talk with me about it because of the HIPAA laws. After reading them a portion of the laws, they came clean and said “it was their policy”…. Then I asked who they were going to send that bill to when she dies? HIPPA or their corp office.

I agree. I like having options also as I try to go to Cabelas as little as possible and Sportsman’s is about a mile from my house. I occasionally drive to Scheels in Eden Prairie and St. Cloud as that is my preferred box store.

I have only been delayed twice, once was only about 1 hour and I got a call on my cell phone. The second time took over a day and I am sure it is because the dealer asked me NOT to put my SSN on the paperwork.

Actually there was another time that took close to 2 hours but it was a case of all operators are busy

Still waiting to hear, will probably stop by and see tomorrow after work if there is time and ask about it in person.

Hopefully they don’t pull the old, that sales not happening any more trick. Gander has done that multiple times to people I know lol.

Used to sell firearms in college, as a preface.

Are you former mil? Sometimes if there was a prior security clearance associated with your name, NICS will “flag” it as something for them to look at more. Just the way the system works unfortunately. Either way, the most that they can delay your purchase is 7 days, at which time as long as they haven’t come back with a “denied” that “delay” tolls to a “pass” at the 7 day mark.

There is a chance that has changed as the last time I worked in firearm retail was 10 years ago.

That is strange but makes sense. AK’s and AR’s I buy through a local retired cop who is an ffl, it takes a while to ship to him anyway.

All pistols I bring home that day.

All rifles and shotguns I’m told to wait everytime. Even a .22lr for my kids.

    Concealed carry permit and all.

Guess I’ve been lucky and never had to wait over 10 mins ???

Not too long ago I set my 365XL up with a holosun 407k-X2. It is a heck of a CCW piece for sure.

Did adding that make if feel less concealable? Any draw backs to it?

At first yes, but it just took a few days to get used to. I carry it appendix vs. strong side, so on my frame (5’5″, 145) it hides the optic a little better in that carry position. The only conceivable downside would be that you lose your rear irons with installing the optic, but with enough practice I’m confident at defense ranges with just the front sight post for reference.

How do you bend over with that appendix

Straight up bending over at the hip isn’t easy, no doubt. Generally its a combination of taking a knee, a squat, and/or hiking up your belt/pants before bending over.

Edit: For anyone who tries appendix, a foam/neoprene wedge on the holster (google it) made a BIG difference for me in terms of comfort. It was almost un-carriable before adding the wedge, but after adding one it has been just as comfortable as carrying strong side.
