I am looking to purchase a new back up flasher as my old LX-2 has pretty much died. Currently run a LX-6 but need one for my son/guests/just in case scenarios. The best deal I have found is a M3 for $379. I have also found a M5 for $439. This back up will be used 5-6 times a year probably. Is it worth the extra $50 to go with the M5 only being used a handful of times a year?

I have never used the m5 but my dad runs a lx5 and I really like it. But my lx3 is the business and has always been great for me. If i was looking for a back up i would probably look used. I would buy another lx3 any day

Both will do what you want. However, when you want to sell it more people will want an M5 compared to and M3. Mostly because they feel they might as well go for the better unit.

Did you try calling Marcum about fixing your LX-2. I think it is a flat rate of $85 to fix it up like new. Best to call though for the details from them, especially since this is an older unit. I think it lists the rates on their website too. If you truly want a back up, I would go that route. If you really want to try something else, then might as well go M5.

    Good Luck.
