I received a special gift in my stocking this year. Back in October I was enjoying my lunch break while browsing the internets and I found these adorable cartoons by an artist named Liz Climo. I sent a couple to Billy, then a couple more, and a couple more. He was at work laughing at the barrage of cartoon images. I found a page-a-day calendar featuring these cartoons and I sent it to him as a suggestion for my Christmas stocking. He agreed ONLY if I could refrain from sending him any more cartoons for the next two days! Well I was successful in my self-control and I knew was probably going to buy me the calendar. I suspected he did so when a package arrived and he didn’t say what it was and just left it in the garage. After Billy’s passing, I looked everywhere for the package and I couldn’t find it! I looked all over the house and the garage and it wasn’t until late November until I found it! I was very happy to have found it tucked away in the garage up high. I put it in my stocking on behalf of Billy and opened it on Christmas morning. It will be a fun calendar to use in 2020 and a reminder of fun memories with my sweet Billy.

My wife and I usually fore go exchanging gifts since we tend to buy what we want when we want it. So, Santa just waves when he flies over our house.

Sharon, that’s beautiful! Our thoughts are with you this holiday season…I lost my Mother this fall, so as you know it’s a season of painful “firsts”. I’m glad to see you got something from Billy for Christmas!

I received a nice gift certificate from the kids so I can get the new to me ranger 620 ready for sauger fishing on the Illinois River.

But the best gift was turning around at work last Friday and seeing my daughter with her Army uniform on calling my name. We did not know she was coming home for Christmas. What a great surprise!

My brother got a really cool gift. There is a website where you can pay “celebrities” a fee to record a personalized shout out. My brother received one from Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator” Chris Hansen. It was really funny. It was personalized for my brother and he even threw in some gems like “take a seat” and “iv’e been monitoring your internet history.”

Not this year, but I think it was 12-13 years ago my grandma on my dad’s side gave me her dad’s (my great grandpa’s) “Short Snorter” from his time in the service during WWII. I haven’t taken it out in years, but there are half a dozen bills taped together, all FULL of signatures from guys that he served with both in Europe and the Philippines. That one is definitely up there on the list of gifts I’ve received!

I received the best gift any man can get. All my kids and grandkids came together for our Christmas meal. Of course I bribed them with prime rib.

Ain’t that the truth. In just over a 2-year span my parents had 4 grandchildren arrive in their lives, including my own son. You’re absolutely right, with busy lives it’s just great to get everyone together.

Mrs Grouse got me these nifty Knipex wrench pliers.

Say Grouse, you know where the Mrs got Knipex from. I had a pair of the mini bolt cutters the were never returned. Man I loved those cutters. Went back to where I bought them and the didn’t have them at the time and I no longer go there.

Yes it was the best gift. Even if we only see her for a couple of weeks. Then it’s back to finish helicopter mechanic training.

I first saw them at Menards, but Mrs Grouse got me a 7 and 10 inch combo pack off Amazon.

They are awesome, btw. I can’t believe it took this long to come up with this kind of tool.
