August 22-23 trip

I will be fishing Mille Lacs the weekend of August 22-23 for Walleye and will likely launch from the NW corner somewhere. I haven’t fish ML before and would accept any advice about techniques and location anyone would be willing to share. I’ve done plenty of bass fishing and jigs for walleye in Canada but ML is a different deal. I’m guessing that I’m too late for minnows and might be hard to find leeches? I’m looking for easy things to try since I will have my head full of big lake issues as I only fish smaller lakes.
    Any help would be appreciated

Someone just posted this a couple days ago. They were at the Red Door Resort which is on the north side of the lake.

I might also suggest looking at the Mr Boley on Mille Lacs thread posted recently on this forum.

You’ll have to sort through some of the side show comments but there’s good information on the current open basin trolling. Watch the videos on that thread will give narrow down some of your trial and error.

My only advice would be to try to be as flexible as you can on where you launch your boat. If the wind is blowing hard out of the south (which it has been lately) the NW side becomes a significant challenge to get out and fish.

You’d want to put in somewhere on the south end. This would be more important particularly if most your experience is on smaller lakes.

x2. If you end up fishing the NW side, launch out of Garrison and troll cranks, lindy rig or power bobber Garrison Reef and/or Myr Mar Reef they are always holding some fish. If you have a big enough boat and lead core (can also power bobber or lindy), running out to the mud flats is usually still a decent option that time of year as well.
