Auger value

I have a 8″ Strikemaster 35cc Lite with the Honda powerhead I’m thinking about selling. Its maybe drilled a few hundred holes in it’s life, and it’s in very good shape. As of last year it fired up with 2 or 3 pulls, and drilled a dozen holes without issue. What could a person reasonably ask for a auger like this? I’ve looked online and I’ve seen people asking anywhere from 75-400 dollars so I’m not really sure where to start. Trying to decide if it’s worth selling or if I just leave it sitting in the corner collecting dust. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree. I see them listing for 200 to 250 and not being sold at all. The solo 2 cycles are going for 100 bucks and I think those are way more sought after then that 4 stroke.

Yeah you are not going to get much. I sold my solo for $50 but it was to a friend of my sons so gave him a deal, but still.

Take the first $75 you get and move on.

I got 50 for my solo. He was going to use it as a post hole digger.

Not much of a market for gas powered augers. I got $60. for a Solo last fall. I started out asking $150. and didn’t get any calls. Dropped my ask to $100. and got offers for $25 to $50. before taking the $60.

Agree with what has been said already. I have a two stroke solo with low miles if anyone is interested, just to lazy to take pics and post.

I’ll trade it for the hitch

I would be surprised if you got more than $100 for it, most are going in that $75 range from what I have seen. All those listings for $150-$200 are not selling, the used market is flooded with everyone moving to electric.

Agreed with the prior comments, which is not worth the hassle imo so I’m hanging onto my Solo. I’ll keep using and maybe give it to my kids or nephews someday if/when I upgrade to electric.

I must be the only one still running strong with my solo. The thing is tough as nails and I just dont see myself spending the $$ to switch to a battery auger anytime soon for how little ice fishing I do these days (10 trips a year)

I ice fish almost daily and I love the gas solo. But on a normal panfish trip I’ll just bring my lite flite and drill.
600 for a electric auger is to much for me. Especially when you’ll need 200 dollar batteries every few years. This day and age I can buy 3 newer solo gas augers for 60 bucks a piece and they will out last all the fancy augers.

The solo is a fantastic auger for sure. Loved mine just wanted to move to electric.

Kind of sad how the market on these has absolutely tanked. I would probably need to give my Lazer Tecumseh away to get rid of it–not that I’m going to.

Ralph, You will have to package it with something else to get a good price for it.

Gas augers are almost more valuable as a boat anchor, unfortunately.

I have a Jiffy Model 30, likely sale price of $50

Also a Jiffy Pro-4, likely sale price of $80

And lots of competitors on Craigslist and Marketprice

Thanks guys. I was afraid that would be the consensus with electric augers being the hot thing now.

I don’t plan on getting rid of it. I’ll either run it till it dies or give it to some kid that could use it.

Think of the advancement of the ice auger tied to the electrification (batteries, etc) of tools and automobiles.

No more mixing oil and gas, no more gas odor in the truck or on you, no more smoke … quieter … I have no idea why I keep my gas auger. If my SM died for some reason (have an extra battery) … I would probably just go out and immediately buy a new one …

Kinda funny they just aren’t banned. Maybe Biden and Walz should have a gas ice auger buy back (voluntary of course) program where they pay us $100 to pull them off the marketplace.

Call it a post hole digger and ask $400.

I’m with you. I absolutely hate most gas small engines. And I say that as a country guy who uses chainsaws and the like often. No more mixing gas. Pulling on them till you puke. Warming them
Up. Exhaust smell. Noise. Just put a fresh battery in the and instant power. The Milwaukee chainsaw and StrikeMaster auger are my favorite battery items.

Agree with everyone at $75-100. I had the 3hp Solo with 10” chipper for LW. The thing tore through ice. I now have the 10” Ion Alpha and did not disappoint last year on Lake Winnipeg. I had two batteries and never any issues. As much as I liked my solo I would not go back.
