Trying to find a deal on an auger in the off season to use in my wheel house for next season. What are people using for augers? Electric or propane? I have a gas auger but I don’t want all those fumes in there?

I got the ion x this year. Will drill more holes than you need in a day. I’ve also used it to open old holes just because I wanted to try it. Worked great. I’ve never used a propane or a different electric but from my experience you can’t go wrong with an ion.
March 24, 2017 at 11:17 pm #1683786Wouldn’t a K-drill throw ice chips everywhere in the house? I haven’t tried one yet but watching YouTube videos it seems like it chews threw the ice and throws the chips pretty far. I do like the idea of the k drill though.
At the same time I’m new to wheel house fishing and set up. Are people drilling holes and then dropping the house down or are you dropping the house and then drilling holes?
I know pretty rookie questions…rogerPosts: 149March 25, 2017 at 4:39 am #1683792YOU WON’T BE SORRY WITH EITHER THE ION OR THE STRIKEMASTER LITHIUM LAZER. I LOVE MY ION.
Brad DostalPosts: 156March 25, 2017 at 6:40 am #1683795We use an Ion in our wheelhouse and really like it. I like to use the Ion in general and it is my go to auger. I do also own propane and gas augers.
March 25, 2017 at 6:53 am #1683796X2 on Ion. Buddy has a wheel house and he uses an Ion. Works well and no fumes.
March 25, 2017 at 8:26 am #1683808Jeff, I have the rubber floor in my house, and I usually keep the house up off the ice 6-8″ while drilling, then finish cranking it down. So compared to my Strikemaster lazer blade I cant say it throws much more ice. I love how easy it is with no handles to get into the corners of the house to get my holes drilled straight. It is so light and fast. In my opinion the Kdrill is a awesome value since most people already have a good drill to use with it.

Strikemaster Is giving away the Bigvolt
Rapala has discontinued them.30 Years from now someone will still manufacture a battery for these too.

Rusty SetterPosts: 15March 25, 2017 at 8:14 pm #1683943I’ve had a propane auger for 6 years and have no complaints, starts great and very little fumes.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348March 25, 2017 at 8:56 pm #1683950Position house, drill holes inside with extension, guy outside with a snow roof rake pulls the shavings out to sides to bank house and give flat surface for house to sit on.
This is way my buddy does it and works just fine. Gas, propane, electric, doesn’t really matter. I do know his SM Honda with a 10″ bit takes forever. Was begging to get my Jiffy in there last trip . But they bring the house in to resort or back home each time and move lakes quite a bit. Could see if you set the house once and never move it electric would be nice. But once you get everything banked, setup, generators, etc the fumes are long gone.
March 26, 2017 at 12:38 pm #1684045I have nothing negative to say about any but I really like my Ion X, In the wheeler it works great and out and about I find myself more willing to drill more holes than usual. I have made a plenum to hold my chips while drilling in the wheeler than reverse the majority of them back down the hole.(saves time from removing them back outside. It also fits the corners with no problem.
March 27, 2017 at 2:55 pm #1684315I’m planning to get an 8″ kdrill because the whole system is so small, and I can swap my “slush copter” (aka. $5 paint mixer) to clear the holes. I also need a new drill anyway.
March 27, 2017 at 3:09 pm #1684321My buddy used a gas auger when he first bought his wheelhouse and it spewed oil on the wall. He got an Ion and it works great.
Reverse is a great feature and good way to eliminate much of the slush.sktrwx2200Posts: 727March 27, 2017 at 3:23 pm #1684330Can you put a 10″ on a K-drill for a handful of holes in the permanent? Or is that too much for drill?
EDIT
Since they dont sell it, it must be too much ice to handle. I like the idea , but dont know if I could handle not having the 10″.
My propane jiffy weighs 1000lbs but it is a beast. but I get tired after like 10 holes. Might have to consider the 8″ KdrillMarch 27, 2017 at 5:03 pm #1684362The K-drill has reverse also. Just flip the switch on your drill to reverse and it clears the holes also. I do it all the time with mine and it works great.
March 27, 2017 at 5:04 pm #1684363I put my 9″ lazer auger on a clam drill plate, with a dewalt, works wonderful for early ice, or in the wheel house.
