Auger blade guard, Does anybody make one that isn’t a piece of junk?
If the little rubber bungy touches a sharp blade your finished.

I have one of these, will cost a few bucks but your problem will be solved as well as other problems that might happen…other forms of damage!
There is even an IDO “On Ice” YouTube segment on this…great sales pitch! wink

Ok, one more post and I’m done, tried twice to attach photo and for whatever reason it’s not coming through??? What I’m talking about is an Otter auger case.

+1 on the cold snap. Put one on my nils 8″ and never looked back!

Ive been relatively happy with the cold snap on the SM. 2 downsides I have found are…
    1. If you are drilling lots of holes in very cold temps the blade and auger flighting likes to ice up and the cover does not fit well. Does not happen too often though.
    2. the band that holds the cover on is just a slice of tire inner tube. Again, in colder temps it will lose its elasticity and the cover fits pretty loose.

That said, I think they are a better cover than the stock cap. And would buy another if I lost mine.

I put the magnet system on my cover and threw away the rubber bungee.

What ever cover comes with your auger, add a couple of hard drive magnets to it. Easy on & off, no straps.

Some of my blade heads have coldsnaps and some have the standard Nils cover, I like them both and have little gripes with each.

The rubber on the coldsnap gets loose in really cold weather and the Nils has cracked in the same temps where the strap sits in the cover. It’s tough to find anything that can withstand abuse in below zero temps…

Anyone know of a good cover for an Eskimo hand auger? The one that came with it broke the first day I was out.

Those rubber bungees are crap….The coldsnap is great but if your on a budget and have a auger smaller than 10″, simply cut the bottom off a empty jug of bleach (or similar sized jug)….drill 2 holes on opposite sides and attach to auger with a small bungee cord. Bam!

I use a Coldsnap cover on my Ion blades, love it!

Coldsnap all the way. Great customer service, when I hit the black band with my blade, had a new one out the next day.

I’ve always used the original covers and replaced the rubber with a piece of 1/4″ bungee cord with 2 knots in it. The cover for my chipper head has had the same cord on it for 18 years and haven’t had a problem yet. It’s a really cheap fix that works really well.
