02 Polaris Sportsman Loud Noise…?

2002 Polaris Sportsman 700 V-twin, when moving I have a loud clunking noise from the gear casing (I think)it is mostly noticeable in low speed ranges, forward and slightly less in reverse. I have done some searching and found that there is quite a bit of play which causes this as the sprockets work to mesh together, but it seems louder then it should be. Anyone every encounter this before? If so what was the fix, if any?

is it due to the pump being bad and not flowing enough fluid?

I always herd mine and thought it was the drive belt ticking and after having the belt blow up and replacing it there still was the slapping noise it drove me nuts for a while until reading into it. dont really care anymore now. Im not saying forsure that is what it is but sure sounds like it.

Good article but the drive line slack noise is a different sound and even with the EBS system is still does it. If you have to let off the throttle that quick going down hill I don’t get why people need extra gadgets to stop instead of just using the rear brakes to slow the drive line down…..

i’ve had a machine with EBS and without i will never go back to a NON-EBS machine. You hardly ever have to use your brakes, even going down very steep hills it almost slows you down too much. Without it the machine feels like it can get away from you in a hurry. my $.02
