I picked up a Polaris XC thats needs the motor gone through. Summer project most likely, but first, I thought I try to find a Polaris motor or damaged snowmobile with a good engine. Anyone have, or know of a Polaris 500, 600 or 700 out there? Thanks,

Thanks, Ya, been on there quite a bit, finding some, but wanted to check with the IDO members… consider all the options available.

Since you are interested in the 700 motor I would advise against the 500. Its a pooch compared to the 600 and 700.
I have had the 600 and currently have the 700 and 800 in two XC’s.

I have a 00 XC700, blew up the bearings inside the water pump and trashed the belt and water pump shaft, one area of interest that it seems is overlooked by alot of people. As of current I am over $200.00 into a project that could have been less than $100.00. Polaris recommends changing out the belt every 1500 miles, cant see any reason the bearings wouldn’t bee a good idea too.

That sucks. I HATE that design on the big blocks. I’m guilty of not changing that belt frequently enough. Dealers tell you they never break but then I hear stories like yours and know it can happen. Next season I plan to do both when prepping the sleds. I suppose you could look at that as a big plus on the 600 since it doesnt have one.

That belt could take down a whole engine in one shot cooling and oil, not the best design but I don’t design them so what do I know…

So, the 500, and 600 share a design, and the 700 and 800 share a design that uses a driven belt for waterpump and cooling?

Shortly after they first came out with domestice twins they offered a 600 in the big block design. Around 99. Seems like they had them in the wedge and definity Gen 2 becasue I know a guy that has one. But starting in 2001 the small block exhaust valve version became standard.

    Correct,
The 2001 on up VES 500 and 600 are smallblocks sharing the same crankacse. The 98 on up, non VES 600 and 700 are bigblocks sharing the same design. I picked up a “bruised” 98 XC 600 from a fellow IDO member that will be the motor donor for my 500. Not the exact same motor design, but will work!
