I broke the pull start rope on my 1990 Polaris Trail. I think its a 400 or 440? My buddy tells me its a pretty easy fix, but unfortunately he lives in Hawaii right now. Anyway, does anyone know somebody that could fix this before Friday? I have a heated garage in Ramsey or I could bring it somewhere.

Fife, its not all that hard. 4 bolts, the only real trick is to keep the spring from jumping out and uncowling on the floor. if that happens you’ll need another person to help put it back in there. Oh and don’t get cheap rope or you’ll be doing it again in 2 weeks…

unbolt it from the motor, keeping pressure on the plate that holds the rope, pushing down on it. Take the remaining old rope out, feed the new rope in, tie the knot and spin until tight, keeping pressure on it the entire time. Put the unit back onto the sled, feed the rope through the slot on the frame, attach the handle and give her a pull.

That is exactly what my buddy said except there is about 12 bolts and not just 4, so I’m thinking it may be a bigger project.
