    I would start simple:

    1) Check/clean air filter if necessary
    2) New plugs
    3) drain and fill with new gas

Other than that, probably need to a get a real mechanic…

My Rincon did the same thing last spring. I thought it was bad gas from sitting over the winter. But when that didn’t take care of it, I took it in to the shop. A simple carb adjustment took care of it….

My gut feeling was the driven clutch spring sacked. At least you have a few ideas to look at.

Is that the two stroke 400 engine? If so my brother-in-laws was prone to fouling plugs.

Depending on year, the 400 Sportsman should be the 425, 4 stroke, with a Single Mikuni Carb.

My 2005 400 had a recall on the cdi box becouse they overheated, also when I bought it new it had the wrong jets in the carb this also made it run poorly at mid range.
