I’m doing a little work to my 1998 Polaris Trail Touring.

Replacing the springs and shocks in the skid frame.

I can’t get the front idler wheels off so I can take the shock off.

I tried tapping them with a hammer but they didn’t budge and I don’t like to force things.

    Any ideas?

    Have I missed something??

I use a good penetrating oil Sea Foam Deep Creep. Then do the tapping thing. I think it will do the trick. I just did the same thing and had the same problem. U may have to get ruff with it but it shuold come???? I think I used a long punch close to the shaft, Tapping it( not in the same place all the way around it)to get it off.

If you dont need to replace those wheel bearings you could drill a hole in the one wheel so the bolt can slide out. Otherwise lube it up, sand it off and keep working it. Everything should slide right off that bar.

There should be a washer to tap on.

I’ll give them a spray and try to work them off.

Penetrating oil, then thread a bolt in one end and beat away

What he said and amory clothe the end of those shafts. Since you have your skid pulled, you should just change the bearings in the idlers anyway. Saves time down the road.

check the slides too. May as well do it all at once since it’s out.

If you have problems getting the suspension back in, use a ratchet strap to collapse the rear.
