Kimpex Shocks

I need to replace the rear shock in my skidframe on my polaris snowmobile.

    Are Kimpex shocks any good?

I’m not a hardcore rider, mostly just fishing.

There is also a shock in the front. Should that one be changed also just to be safe?

That one has a spring on it so how difficult would it be to pull the spring off and reinstall it on the new shock?

    Thanks

I replaced the shocks on my 94 440’s with Kimpex Gold Gas shocks about 3 years ago. Made a world of difference in the ride. Would highly recommend them as a replacement shock. As for the front shock I replaced mine when I did my rears, but i used a hydrolic shock and not a gas one in the front. I don’t remember it being all that difficult to replace the front shock on mine, i think the spring slid off pretty easily. I would replace the front at the same time as the rear, I would also look at the idler wheels and the bearings and replace those as needed. No sense in having to pull the skid out again to replace a bearing. Good Luck

If this is a gas shock, then you’ll need to decide if you want to replace or re-build. A re-build might be more economical than replacement. If it’s a hydraulic shock, then you’ll need to replace it.

Depending on your riding style they both are very good. Most people don’t re-build gas shocks often enough and the seals wear out or dry out. Once that happens they are useless, but they can still be re-built.

Hydraulic shocks require less maintenance, but the are not as high performance either.

Kimpex, Fox, etc, etc – most are very good brands and Kimpex is a good brand.

I think I’m going to replace both shocks in the skid frame.

Is it difficult to take the spring off the front shock?

No it should not be to bad to replace, it will be a 2 person job though.

You may want to replace the rear springs, they have a tendancey to fatigue and break.

I would also recomend taking the skid apart and grease it up and make sure it moves freely.

Also take picture with a digital camera so you can put it back correctly.
