What does a 21 yr old need to operate an ATV on a county road? A friend was ticketed for not having a safety certificate but has a drivers license and motorcycle endorsement.

Our local ordances do not allow ATVs on the roads. We have farms less than 4 miles from our door too.

Anyone born after July 1, 1987 and who is 16 years or older must successfully
complete the ATV Safety Training CD before operating an ATV on public
lands, frozen waters, public road rights-of-way, or state or grant-in-aid trails
and may choose to attend an ATV Safety Training Class.

How much was the ticket? Dont get me wrong safety is important but its a joke that anyone over the legal age to drive a car needs the additional certificates.
watercraft safety, snowmobile safety, ATV safety.

    This is from the DNR:
Effective January 1, 2006, anyone who operates an ATV and is born after July 1, 1987 must complete the ATV CD Training Course before operating an ATV.

I agree but it sure is nice being old enough to be grandfathered in all those rules.

Ouch, thats crazy. I missed the window to be grandfathered in on the snowmobile safety one. I better start putting some money aside for that ticket one day…

Consider himself lucky he did not get another ticket for riding on the road. There are only a couple of counties in Mn that riding on the road is legal.

Amazing how different the ATV and sled laws are between Wi and Mn. Wi is definitely the more ATV friendly state.
