I have a new ranger 6×6 with an 800 motor. I was stunned to find out that the dealer charges $50 for an oil change. The oil change kit is $30 for a filter and 2 qts oil. Any reason why I couldn’t use Mobil 1 and get a filter from the local parts store? I haven’t looked at it,…is it a royal pain in the ,….to do this? Thanks for your advice!

ATV oil changes are pretty simple. Unless it affects your warranty, assuming you have one on a new machine, i would go to the parts store and save yourself a few bucks. $30 bucks for a filter and 2qts oil?…wow!

You can buy most Atv filters at fleet farm or auto parts store for a lot cheaper. Polaris oil is always expensive. But 30 bucks isn’t that bad considering how often it really needs to be changed. Check your owners manual for the recommend intervals.

That’s cheap. I just spent $35 for a filter and two quarts of oil at Chopper City, Monday.

Of the 3 ATV forums I often visit, all have permanent information showing the cross reference auto filters for ATV’s. The choices are vast. I use a Wix for my two Kawis but I could use a filter made from any mfg. Wix have always been my favorite filters for my vehicles over the years. Do a search on forums for your ATV and I’ll bet you find the same thing. Saves money. You can also find good oil info. Check that closely to make sure you dont need a wet clutch formula. I for one have used Mobil 1 in my Kawis. I dont currently because one of them liked to burn it. I currently use Valvoline ATV formula oil from Mills and save money. Anytime you can avoid buying materials from the dealer you will save money. I only buy things from dealers that cannot be purchased elsewhere.
