So recently myself and 2 of my roommates for next year purchased a 1994 arctic cat puma for icefishing the duluth area for $500 bucks. Kind of an impulse buy. the owner is a drag racer/mechanic and he replaced the carb, and tuned it up. it had been sitting for months due to him acquiring it from a relative that past away. I asked if we could start it up and with one turn of the key it started!

My question is, has anyone ever owned this model, or know anything about it? just seeing if i got a good deal/ if its a good sled.

    thanks for the help!

Regardless of model… if it starts with a touch of the key and you paid $500… you got a good deal.

i bought it from his neighbor, we were hanging out over there 2 weekends ago.

Gotcha. Grant’s roomie tuned my sleds up last week and got them ready for another winter of work. He did an awesome job and seems to know his stuff.

thats awesome! grant has been telling me all about his summer adventures coming up, sounds like the dream job to me!

He’s going to find out what its like to drive all night, fish and work all day… get 3 hours of sleep and hop in the truck and do it again two states over. He’s either going to love it or hate it. We should know by the second week in June.

ok now to get back to the topic, has anyone owned this sled or know anything about it?

I have two cats. One with a 580. The other with a 600. What motor do you have? Both of mine have been very solid.

My family had a ’94 Puma 340 for some years. You won’t win any races as it maxed out between 40-50mph depending on snow conditions, but overall bulletproof. All those 340/440 fan cooled Cats were some of the most reliable I’ve ever seen. Never a motor problem on any we drove through the years. It should be a fine fishing sled, very simple and lightweight.

it has a 340, not much power but will get the job done. better than my other older snowmobile which doesnt have the clearance in the back like the newer sleds do.

Speed doesn’t mean much when you’re towing an ice house. I’ll take a reliable, lightweight sled for ice fishing over a burner with a big, heavy motor any day.

thats what i wanted to here!!

Eventually they all get stuck in slush (or fall though the ice but its too soon to talk about that out loud yet ). The lighter weight sleds are so much easier to muscle free.
