We haven’t used the Sportsman in a couple years. Went to start it yesterday and NO DICE. It cranks but doesn’t seem to be getting fuel. I am in no way, shape, or manner an engine guy. Any good repair shops you can recommend on the south end of the cities? We currently live in Eden Prairie but will be moving to Faribault next week.

    Any suggestions?

Pull the spark plug and spray starting fluid in it, if runs for a short time, then I would think a fuel issue. You can drain the fuel bowl, maybe there is water in it.

Did you add anything to the gas before storing it that long? Not sure what year it is and has a carb or fuel injected?

My suggestion is drag it on a trailer with a winch or come-along and sort it out after the move.

Not being a smartarse, just by experience I can tell you that a wheeler that sat with the gas turned on for a couple of years without running is going to be totally gummed up and spraying starting fluid or putting a bunch of snake oil in the tank isn’t going to do anything to fix it.

I hear this story over and over again with the stuff I work on. Gas left on, the machine sits, everything’s effed up. Just did a pressure washer for a guy down the block, worst carb I’ve seen in years. He stored it with the tank full but didn’t turn off the fuel. About a gallon and a quarter of gas evaped through the carb and left it looking like it was coated in dried honey. Took 10 cycles through the ultrasonic cleaner to even come close to clean.

    I realize I’m an idiot!!

That aside, I still need to get it fixed. If I do it now or after the move I am still going to need a repair shop. If I take it somewhere this week I don’t have to deal with it during the move.

My question still stands. Any recommendations for a shop?

Again…I’m no engine guy…anything construction wise I can handle, 30 years in the industry. When it comes to engines I leave that to someone that knows what they are doing.

Might be too far but had good service work done at Valley Sports in Egan.

Faribault area? I would call LaCannes.

Aren’t most dealerships who sell Polaris also certified mechanics?
