On the Honda Foreman, anyone worry about the ground clearance? It seems a little lower than others. I also want an “automatic” transmission, and don’t want to have to manual shift (foot or hand).

Any opinions on how various ATV’s handle the snow out on the lake? I know there are times when a snowmobile is better, but it seems some ATV’s handle deeper snow better than others.

Other consideration, I’m a big guy and typically have another person (son, fishing buddies) with me.

Mine is foot shift and my brother’s is auto. I prefer foot shift my self, but bro has 0 issues with his. Hondas biggest down fall is on machines with electronic shifting.
For snow, mine is all I use in the winter. I plow and ice fish daily. Chains are recommended and I put 27 inch tires on it. I wouldn’t go 28. Gives me plenty of clearance. The true locking diff is awesome. I get stuck in 2 wheel, really stuck in 4, then lock the diff and can usually crawl out. We ride hard and love deep stuff. Like I said my honda takes abuse.

Gotta agree with Bearcat. manual foot shifter all day long. Honda’s had some issues with the electronic shifters so I’d skip those.

Not sure on current honda’s but yes, back in the day they had some of the worse ground clearances, but I’ve never had an issue unless plowing through snow.

Best ATV ever made was the Honda 300!

    Kawasaki Brute Force

I prefer my intake valves not sucked into the head. Not bashing, just the truth. I have owned multiple v-twin kawies from bone stock to 13:1 big bore engines and there’s no way around it. My current plow machine is a Prairie 650.

Another vote for the Honda. Go with the foot shift, do some routine maintenance, and ride a long time without issues.

900 miles isn’t alot but added it to my post for reference for my experience, thank you for pointing that out as others may have missed that.

I must have got one of the “good ones”. I have a Polaris 570 and no issues other than an absolutely stupid battery location.

My uncle and buddy have also had good luck with Polaris and another buddy has a Polaris Ranger that’s been good too

Have a 2016 sportsman 570, other than a few batteries over the years and 900 miles it’s been pretty solid for me. Awsome ride and very quick and responsive ( great polaris clutching) for its motor size. Each year has made improvements in design and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one, have a friend going back to polaris from Can am as well.

I was a diehard Polaris fan for 25 years. going from can-am back to Polaris? That’s funny. Can-am builds a way more solid machine than Polaris.

I had a Polaris 570 ranger for a year and a half and it was bulletproof with no issues but ride anything can-am and you can tell a difference

Yes I agree the can am is built better, never said it wasn’t.My friend liked the ride and handling of his pervious polaris more than his can am is why he wants to go back, not because of build quality.

Going to look at a 2016 Suzuki King Quad 750 AVI PS that has less than 1000 miles on it, priced actually decently for the used market.

As long as this is about 570s I’m looking at a 2021 cam am that size anyone have any likes or dislikes. Sounds like the 570 isn’t going to be available in 2022.

It’s still around for 22’. There was almost zero changes in that lineup.

Honda Foreman.I’ve heard that Polaris means”Pulled Off Lake And Repaired In Snow”.
Yamaha and Suzuki are a very close second.

Not sure what is better,Polaris or ChinaMoto? Both are priced less than similar models from the brands mentioned.

When I priced ATVs,CanAM was the most expensive. And that was in the 400-600 class.

Someone already said it but… if there are 10 Polaris for every 2 Hondas… if a Honda breaks down, 5 Polaris should for all things equal. Maybe that’s why they always break down ! 2005 700 Sportsman, never been in the shop. Also owned a Yamaha 200E 3 wheeler back in the day, thing was unstoppable and a Honda 250R.. it was fast as hell, until it blew up.

If my 09 rincon ever quits , over 2300 hours and 12000 miles I’ll buy a new one, I’ve put a cv shaft and a stator and rectifier on it ,an tires , thats it. Like said before they all have their own issues, some less than others, you can ask this same question on every forum you want and you will get the same answers.

Shifter kart hell to the yeah. We had it in a mini sand rail for a while but it tore the axle off 3 times so now it’s just looking for a new machine to call home

Me it comes down to I do not care what color it is if you get a lemon you got a lemon happens with anything mechanical. My old 96 Polaris has around 15,000 miles on it and have never touched the engine or tranny. Belts, chains, sprockets and tires which are all wear items. It does get used to move snow but if too deep get out the skidsteer.

In the final processes of closing the deal on a new 2022 570 Sportsman Premium. Adding a winch, blade, windshield, and handwarmers. Out the door under $11k.

My plans are to use the unit for ice fishing 6-10 trips a year (total of about 10 days or 20 hours) and moving snow in the driveway 6-10 times a year (total of about 5-10 hours). From a cost effective standpoint I think this is hard to beat. Like anything else, if the unit holds up it will be great. If not, well, that’s the risk we run with a lot of things.

I’ve owned a couple Yamaha Grizzlies, there’s a reason why they haven’t changed much in the design the last 10+ years…700 does everything I could ever ask of it…

Those are great machines. I went honda for similar reasons. They had it figured out back in the 80s. Basically same concept. Polaris now, well that’s polaris lol. Change designs often. But I do admit they have a great seat, very comfortable

You can’t beat Honda reliability. I have a 2002 Honda Rancher and 2000 Honda Foreman. Never had any issues with either of them. Just do basic maintenance each year and you are good to go.

Honda , i have a Yamaha Grizzly 708 and it been not fun less than 1000 miles and engine top end has been rebuilt 3 times! Service bulletin was paid for by Yamaha . Fuel pump replaced under service bulletin and now a new starter at 900 miles glue let loose on magnets ! Not impressed at at ! 84 Honda is still chugging along . Popo was not a choice for me , just way to many issues .
