What’s the best way to mount an auger to an atv? I’m thinking of putting it on the front but am also looking at one of those tubes from Cabelas. Wondering pros and cons of each and what mounts are best for front rack application.

Digger mount, no contest….
Just finished my first season with one and love it.
The guys already hit it… But the Digger Auger mount (IMHO) is hands down the best mount out there for an ATV or Sled.
The Digger is a great mount, but I ended up putting on 2 sets of Kolpin gun mounts on my ATV. I can use them for carrying guns or my auger.
I put this set on for the handle of the power head to set in.
And this set (only sets in one of them) for the Bit to set in.
They all easily adjust to setup for my auger or guns with no tools.
I have a set of Kolpin mounts for misc items installed on the front rack behind the Digger mount, they work great together…
I have the koplin auger mount, easy to mount, I have mine set up in front of my front basket so I don’t loose all me storage area, going on 4yrs with it no problems, I just bungee cord both ands an the auger won’t go anywhere, bought mine at fleetfarm
I have the digger on my polaris, that was new to me this year, and with my limited use it was great. I like that I can remove for the season by just lostening 2 bolts also.
I have the Digger on my CanAm Outlander and it is good, but honestly I have a few issues with it.
Biggest issue is I don’t like how the head has almost no support when hitting hard bumps. The shaft and gear box take a huge beating. If I keep it I will be putting a support under the bottom handle to give it better support before next season.
Also I hated how, no matter how tight I got the shaft clamp, the shaft slid back and forth when hitting bumps that rock you back and forth. I found a 25mm stainless steel collar for the shaft to keep it cradled in place, and that fixed the problem.
I also dislike how it takes up most of my front rack storage and I only have just enough room for a milk crate up there.
I may be going to the otter tube hanging off the side of my rear box next year.
As much as I enjoy saying I dislike Clam products, I love their auger mount. I run a Nils Tanaka and the shaft is much longer than other augers, thus I like to spread out the distance between the mounts.
I agree with Munchy, the Digger is nice, but it is not spread out enough for my liking and does not support the motor how I would like. Finding replacement parts for a Tanaka motor is not something I like to spend an entire afternoon doing…If the motor is not supported, the bearings and seals on the lower end of the gear box take a beating if going over rough terrain not supported.
Did your Digger mount not come with the aluminum L bracket that supports the auger head? mine did…
I like the mounts that support the motor, I haven’t heard of someone bending a shaft with the digger, but all that weight unsupported worries me. I went with the clam auger mounts for my set up.
Use gun mounts on my rancher, cable tie a pool noodle to the rack to support the auger engine and gear box.

Yes it did. It bent the first time out. And when you’re talking about supporting something heavy like the motor head, you don’t want the point of contact 3-4 inches from the point of rotation and on the gearbox when you can support it a foot or more away on a better contact like the handle.
You can also see the shaft collar I installed on the left side to prevent the auger from sliding back and forth.
For occasional use this one has worked for me.

Have had the Digger for 3 years. It works great.
Perfect spot for the LED light. When I installed my digger the first thing I said is I know what I am putting between there. SO BRIGHT!
I have a Koplin gun mount on my Honda Big Red for my ION and I have had zero issues, with or without the extension on.
I’ve had the Kolpin mounts for a couple of years now. Never really satisfied with them. I have the round tube racks on my ATV’s and even with the rubber grips and constantly tightening them, they never really impressed me, as they would always move around and fall either forward or backward. I found this especially true when using heavier augers. Went with the Digger this year and it has been phenomenal. Buying another one next year for the sled.
It appears to me that you have to have a horizontal surface to mount the Digger?
In my case I would like to find a way to mount my auger to my Can Am Commander

Anyone use the auger tube from otter?
I just picked up one on clearance and now have to figure out how to mount it on my ATV.
Hey Budn,
You had posted pics of your Ranger with the Digger mount. Did you bolt it or weld it? I bought a 2010 800 recently and just bought a Digger mount to put on the front.

They are made to be used with the Otter monster box. Now called the Rhino box. I am sure you could modify it somehow to mount without it
