Atlanta to cut Cousins?

According to ESPN, Atlanta is going to dump Cousins already. Can you imagine operating any other business where you drop $185 million and then blow it off?

Just a little better, but only $100 million is guaranteed.
There won’t be any low salary cap hit honeymoon for Atlanta with the young Pennix at QB

that’s the funny part, Pennix is probably older than half the starting QB’s in the league…

I doubt they drop him until after the season. There is zero guarantee Penix works out or doesn’t get hurt. They are still in the play-off race and need Cousins.

Yes, Glenn is correct. Prior to March 15 they will save $10 mil.

I’m surprised they benched him after a win. Obviously he was not playing very well the past month but he did throw a TD and they won to keep pace with Tampa. They must think that Penix can do better.

His starting QB days may be over but he will find a job somewhere as a backup. Prototypical backups are veterans like him.

Good coaching and good systems can make serviceable QBs look great. We’re lucky to have that here in MN. Darnold is now benefitting from the same. I predict Sammy takes a step back just like Kirko if he goes to the typical Raiders/Jets type of scenario.

I bet Kirk-o will start again somewhere. He’s got unbelievable arm talent. That limited mobility is his big draw back. I wonder how much recovering from the Achilles affected his game. He’ll get paid again, but nothing like his last contract. I don’t know who is dumber, the falcons or the browns when it comes to paying qbs.

Kirk was statistically playing like one of the better QBs last year before he got hurt. While mobility and planting could possibly be an issue this year, he didn’t just forget how to throw a football or read for open receivers. He’s definitely having a down year but is also somewhat of a scapegoat. For years people have referenced Atlanta and “all their weapons” and they haven’t produced much, even in the NFC’s worst division.

I think there’s a few teams out there that will offer Kirk a 2 year deal. Not exactly a QB stacked draft coming up. He’ll be a starting quarterback for a couple years yet, and doing Kirk-O things. Just not on any real front runners.

Like I said, previously, he will never throw a pass in the NFL again.
He has so much money he can pay somebody to throw the football for him woot

If he never plays another down in the NFL, if I’m coming out of college and going to the NFL, I’m calling him to get his agents phone number. applause

Cousins is mostly a good guy and the QB show on Net flicks shows how he is trying to beat aging with training, nutrition, chiropractors, and hard work (studying).

As far as the move to the Falcons … how many people have chased a better job or better wage and found where they were may have been a better “value”?

Cousins was already set financially with generational wealth but chose to reach for the next gold ring. So don’t feel sorry for him here… He doesn’t seem like the guy who will dwell too long …

Let’s also be honest the Vikings were only going to offer him a 1 year deal as well.

I think Atlanta moved back ahead of Tampa in the south after the Bucs lost to Dallas.

Cousins has admitted publicly he would have given more serious consideration to the Vikings offer if he had known Atlanta was going to draft Penix.

Pretty sure he has a bit of regret, especially now.

He is one of the luckiest QBs who has ever played the game. Hopping teams, playing mediocre — good enough to get some wins, but never enough to seal the deal in the playoffs — but walking away with bank as he shuffles off to the next team.

No other QB in history has made so much money with such limited skills. Like others said, His agent has serious talent. All that money and only 1 playoff win in his career. That’s crazy !

What a ridiculous statement. If he was an actual good QB he would have nothing to worry about.

I think the same way. I’ve never seen these Atlanta skill players look at good as people hype them up to be. Jerome Simpson made splash plays too.

Cousins: when they give you that kind of cash they are serious about you, stupid or both.
They draft a younger QB, so what? You know they have to think about their future. The NFL stands for ‘Not For Long’ Wa wa KC.

Hard for a competitor to give up the game you love, but Kirk has a future after football. I’d like to see him hang it up before he’s taken too many hits and focus on his charitable stuff. I could see him in the booth, as well, but maybe he’s not edgy enough.

There’s definitely a demand among football fans who want to see plays broken down, what went into a call, what the QB saw initially, who they’re looking off, what certain routes are doing to the secondary, etc. And Kirk could be a good analyst like that. Watching him on that QB documentary on Netflix you can see he’s a good student of the game and articulate enough that he could be breaking things down for some network on TV.
