I feel I’m usually pretty informed, but I’ve had a lot of unfortunate distractions in life this year… Why is the firearm 200-A season 2nd-3rd week of November instead of 1st-2nd? Usually daylight saving corresponds with 1st weekend of hunting. I do remember some discussion of pushing the season back a few years ago, but didn’t think it came to anything. Given the lack of pre-rut activity I’ve seen in my area, I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but I’m just wondering.

Someone posted in the live from the tree thread that it has to be the closest Saturday to Nov 6. Next year it’ll be on Nov 8. Last year it was on the 4th.

Just the timing of the calendar cycle every so often.

I believe the Minnesota firearms opener is always the 1st Saturday on or after November 6th.

I think it has something to do with having season 2 occur over Thanksgiving.

With 5 days between seasons, that makes season 1 start later than normal.

OK awesome! Thanks for sharing – I didn’t know the rule of Nov. 4th (or 6th?) either way – that makes sense. I did think that Nov 2 sounded really early. Appreciate the quick responses

I think it has to start the Saturday closest to November 6th: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/6232.1300/

Last year that was Monday so it started weekend before, this year it’s a Wednesday so it’s weekend after.

Edit: wow, I took way too long to type this lol

It has always fluctuated but I dont ever remember not having the 1st day be the day the clocks turn at night.

It’s a unicorn year, where Sunday morning isn’t an hour early! Love these years.

Guess I feel the opposite. Since we’re getting up based on sunrise not a specific time, it really didn’t affect us and made it easier to adjust. Might just be me though.

Yeah its this. Because the 1st is Friday they wont do it that first saturday. They do the same type of thing with the fishing opener which is why like 7 of 8 years it falls on Mothers Day weekend

It’s the Saturday closest to Nov 6. Not the first one on or after 6th. Reef posted the reference above. Last year it was on Nov 4.

I like not having to deal with the time change. There always seems to be one guy that’s confused by the change and is waking everybody up an hour early.

I agree, better to just not deal with it on the second day of the season alltogether. There was always one guy in our camp that did that too every season with the time change the second morning. doah

Exactly. If the first of November falls on Sunday – Thursday it will be the first Saturday. If it falls on Friday, then it will be the second Saturday, which is why it happens what 7 of 8 years or whatever like fishing opener not falling on mothers day.

I admit, I was the early guy one year. Sitting in the woods in complete darkness thinking man the sun is taking a long time to come up. I think I was asleep in my stand by 9:00am rotflol

Same, give a week to adjust and be used to it.

I wouldnt mind if they pushed it back into mid november when theres a better chance for cooler weather

I did that one year as well, which is especially troubling if you like being in the stand early. Two hours in the dark is too much if anyone was wondering. Also, thank god for cell phones that automatically update amirite!?!? whistling rotflol sleeping

I did that once in college while sitting in the bowstand, but it was in october… maybe it was the activities the night before that caused poor alarm clock judgement

As soon as I saw the dates for the opener, I thought to myself that there will be guys sitting in stands a week early. There is going to be a lot of confusion come this weekend, I would be willing to bet if you drove around in Zone 1 on Saturday morning, you’d be able to find someone sitting in a stand.

I had a customer the other day tell me he was planned to head up this weekend. He was told by someone that it was the next weekend. He said he would have been in his stand Saturday morning for sure. It will happen to someone.
