A witness being interviewed just said “the sharpshooter shot the man in the water tower”.

    Interpret that as you may.

Several shots fired and Trump was nicked in the ear and escorted away to safety. Could be 2 shooters and NBC is now reporting that one shooter is dead.
Unfortunately it does sound like some bystanders in the crowd were shot and one might be dead.

It’s not entirely clear if he was shot or even shot at. Reports indicate that it may have been gunfire or firecrackers. There was some blood on his right ear when he was rushed off stage though. Secret Service has reported he is safe and is not dead or seriously injured.

I listened to the audio and it almost sounded like a .22 short going off. It didn’t sound like a higher caliber round.

The more concerning issue is how someone was able to get a weapon into the rally given the high amount of security and screening every person goes through to attend. This is a serious breach of failed law enforcement.

Edit: they are now saying one spectator is dead, another is injured, and the apparent shooter is dead.

I would agree with that Gim, a campaigning politician on the receiving end of violence is not good at all for this country.

Is anybody surprised by this? We are evolving into a $hith0le country lead by the political parties.

ABC reported the shooter was outside secure area. Supposedly shooter was on a water tower.
This surprises me that the tower wasn’t secured.
Our small town had a presidential rally back in 2004.
John Kerry spoke to the crowd on our main street. There were 2 helicopters circling the business district at 100 feet of elevation with SS Agents hanging out either side with rifles.

I am not surprised what happened today. When you continually say that your opponent is Hitler, or fascist, dictator, etc and the media is complicit in spreading that message, it was only a matter of time.

Ya that’s the concerning issue here, someone isn’t doing their job. The entire area is crawling with secret service and local law enforcement.

Have to imagine this is going to affect how the conventions are run. The Republican one is supposed to start next week in Milwaukee.

Reports are saying the Director of Secret Service denied requests for additional security and additional SS agents to be present at this event.

I dont understand the reason to point a finger at “law enforcement” and have no details.

Can I ask what news you listen too?? Just curious who thought this was to blame on law enforcement or if it is just a personal opinion?

“Reports” – just another rumor at this time unless a credible source is cited.

    I am genuinely sad.

We have taken such a huge step backwards as the “Leader of the Free World”. Polarizing, radical beliefs rooted so deeply in a corrupt 2 party system are THE biggest threat to our nation. This type of s**t political violence should not take place here. It’s a barometer used to measure how undeveloped countries are run. We should be beyond this as a country.

Without changes in current and coming generations, we will be our own demise. North Korea, China, Russia, Global Warming, blah blah will be the least of our worries.

Politically, many of us (myself for sure) liked driving in the center lane of the highway. These parties have done away with that possibility. There’s only left and right lanes now. In fact, it’s gotten to the point that there’s really only the left and right shoulders, what’s next…driving in the ditch I guess? Really beyond sad. My poor grandkids and their kids…

It’s called securing the outer perimeter. Clearly was not done properly, or at all.

I work in federal law enforcement. Someone didn’t do their job.

The good news is that secret service reacted quickly and neutralized the threat. But not before multiple individuals were injured and someone lost their life.

Not affiliated with either party, don’t care for either candidate, but it’s really sad to see comments online about this, wishing the attempt would have been successful. If you wish for a political opponent’s death, or rejoice in a political opponent’s cognitive decline, you’re a horrible person. This is unreal, the political climate in this country right now.

The star tribune is reporting that the shooter was only 164 yards from the podium where he was speaking. shock

I didn’t even know the US secret service still guards “ex-presidents” or presidential candidates. I thought they only worked for current/sitting presidents. Maybe I’m a dumb*ss. The more you know!

I just read that the shooter was a registered Republican that belonged to some far right organization.
