Bought a pontoon at the Sports show back in March. Scheduled it to be picked up today at 9am to take up to the new cabin.
Took the day of work to take the boat up and bring the trailer back.
    Work Thursday.
    Friday hauling a trailer up.
Have the entire family coming up this weekend to ride in the pontoon.

Got a TEXT at 6:34 this morning from my sales guy asking me if anyone from service contacted me because the boats not ready!
Service Manager just called me to let me know that he would know more by 4:00 this afternoon.

I asked if they were going to deliver it up to my cabin for this weekend, he’ll gat back to me on that.

That’s a tough deal. Try to focus on the bright side if they don’t come through.

Sounds like you should just take Thursday off, and stay at the cabin to keep the BP down. Have them deliver a pontoon by Friday, even if it’s not yours… toast

my buddy is in the same boat. he and a friend bought boats at the boat show and were promised at a deadline. seems to be a common theme for boat sales sadly.

feel for you man. hopefully they’ll work the magic somehow. If you want to make something happen I would get ahold of someone as high up the ladder as you can and calmly explain the situation. You know what rolls down hill. Everytime I’ve seen anything at my work the higher up a customer gets the more it makes sense for the company to take care of it.

Have you seen the forecast? May not be a bad thing delaying the maiden voyage after all? I am sickened by the forecast! Normally when there is rain forcasted on Sat/Sun we never take the cover off our pontoon so we dont have to put it on wet when we leave. Not using it gets old fast.

You bought it in march why wasn’t it ready? Did they need to order it or just bad time management on the dealers part? I would be very upset as well. Hope everything turns out ok and your weekend isn’t ruined by this incident.

    Man that’s got to suck!

I know how excited I was after signing the papers for the Solera. Dean said it would be two to three weeks before it would arrive from the factory. He changed the color of one that he had on order already to ensure our boat came as fast as possible. I was looking at it in person in two weeks, it was rigged and floating by that weekend.

I’m sure delay’s can happen to any dealer for a number of reasons…it’s just worse when it’s your float.

I have a friend that order his (in stock) boat and he was assured it would be delivered on a Thursday because they were leaving for the lake on Friday.

Thursday the owner of the dealership calls and says it won’t be done being rigged until late Friday. He went on to say they will be firing the tech as soon as he finishes rigging that boat. doah

It’s a bad time of year to get anything done at a boat dealership right now…(and I’ll refrain from giving Dean another round of Kudos here).

Only thing I could suggest is to tell your dealership that contacting you the day of is not acceptable and ask what he’s going to do about it. flame

That sucks… unfortunately some boat dealers, not all but some care more about writing up the sale than promising a realistic delivery date.
I hope they work hard to and come through for you!

That sucks. Do they have another boat you could use for the weekend? How far out are they from being able to delivery your boat?

as a sales professional for over 23 years the fact that he contacted you about this on the day of delivery is unconscionable. the fact that he did it via text is unforgivable.

Ouch. Hope this gets sorted out in a hurry. I would have my truck at the dealership, loaded and ready to scratch a bright and shiny new ball on the pontoon on its maiden voyage up north. Otherwise I would expect them to be delivering it for free…

Steve and I must have gone to the same school.

I don’t need to know the name, but have they been around awhile?
I mean crap happens…it’s what they are going to do about it that counts.
It wouldn’t be beyond me AFTER listening to what they had to say to pull out of the deal and find another dealer.

I feel your pain and I don’t blame you for being pissed.

This kind of situation has happened to me numerous times. What mystifies me is that contracts with ANY product that has to be ordered by the consumer are always one-way streets.

The customer MUST do everything that is required. Namely, pay.

The dealer/business has to do NOTHING except eventually deliver the goods. At some time, in some way, etc, etc. No matter what was agreed to at the time of the sale, the dealer always feels entitled to basically add “or whenever we get it done or choose to do it.”

Personally–and I’m dead serious about this–I’d send the dealership the bill for your day off of work. Net 0 and with a 30% finance charge if not paid within a week.

Short of the owner delivering it himself i’m sitting in their office in the morning expecting a check. They over sold and over promised. There is no way that pontoon just showed up there. You were on the end of a very long line.

Not even Walmart would wait until the day of to contact you.

Kudos for not naming the dealer. I would have along with their phone number, salesmans name and number, owners name and number.

I seriously wouldn’t blame the rigger. He does the work set in front of him.

    1) River Valley – Red Wing.
    2) In stock bought, it off the floor at the show. Actually they brought that specific pontoon there for me to purchase.
    3) All they needed to do was install the motor.
    4) Sticker, yes.
    5) I have nhamms old backtroller, I hope it seats 6 adults and 3 dogs comfortably. however it seems to have quite a few booze stains on the carpeting.
    6) They said they might be able to deliver it Saturday morning, but that hasn’t been confirmed. *If they do all is forgiven* they said boat sales are up 250%.
    7) What eats at my craw is the texting part. When I asked the service manager why I was notified by text at 6:30 am he said “well that’s a fair question” but didn’t answer the question.
    8) Not to worried about the weather, I just want to see it tied to the dock.
    9) Good thing I have ADHD because I already forgot what I was mad at.

WOW, 2 months to install a motor and they could possibly get it done, that is maddening for sure. What ever happen to good ole customer service. I don’t care if boat sales are up 6 million %, if you can’t handle it get out of the business.

I know you are wanting this pretty bad, but I’d have a hard time not telling the dealer to pound sand on this deal.

    x2.

or at least stop the lies on delivery times. I suspect that with increased sales have come increased pressure to make those sales. They don’t want you to go to the competition so they just tell you “yeah, we can have it ready by then”, knowing full well that they cant be sure that this is the truth. Why? cause the guy in the booth next to him selling XXXX boat is saying the same thing.

Ah, now this whole situation makes sense…I’ve tried to buy something there twice and they weren’t interested in ordering for me…went elsewhere and had it ordered same day and delivered in 3 weeks…Seems to be a common theme for them…
