As we are approaching the (first) crest on Trenton Island

    No April 1st joke here.

The road from the Woodshed to the WI back channels is flooded making the back channel unusable.

They’ve lowered this crest to 16.3′ from 16.5′. Not much of a help to be honest.

I did see a flat bottom out on the river yesterday, but otherwise the old river was pretty quiet.
I’m guessing Lake Pepin is open by now. Since most of the Locks are closed due to high water, we won’t be seeing any tow traffic for a while.

I really don’t know how those buisness owners do it. I can’t imagine the mess flood waters leave and then their busy season starts in only a few short weeks.

As of 6 am today the temp at lock #3 is 39 degrees.

    Level dropped to 15.48 from yesterday’s 15.72. It’s a start…

There season doesn’t close for many of them, but I get your drift.

There doesn’t seem to be too many smiles going around while the water is rising, but once owners hear the water’s dropping, that frown gets turned around! (dropped 3″ last night) woot

Certainly a lot of clean up but it’s a labor of love. If they didn’t love the river, they would be much better off on higher ground. The river (and lakes) draw people to them. It’s like seeing an old friend after 30 years.

Contact with water induces a meditative state that makes us happier, healthier, calmer, more creative, and more capable of awe.

The FW couldn’t understand why I always wanted to be in a camper or boat on the river. She didn’t spend much time in the campers and to be honest, the last camper wasn’t sitting correctly to get a good view of the river.

Last fall while sitting in a uncomfortable lawn chair in the boat she finally said “I get it! It’s great just to sit here and watch the water go by!” Only took her 13 years… but baby steps.

Good to see those life jackets. I think some of the waitresses down there have built in ones to protect them as well.

63 was about two feet by my eyeball from going over. Never closed. There’s plenty of water there yet and I’m expecting to see the carp folks out there with the bows soon.

TBT @ The Harbor bar. The night before the back patio were to be laid I was challenged to permanently put my mark in the concrete. Although agreed after a few cocktails the next morning I held my word. My implants are forever imprinted. I feel honored to be forever apart of a place I truly miss working at.
