    Thanks everyone for the kind words!!!

    Hey Lip;
    A little opener tip that saved us last year on LOTW. It may very well work for where you are fishing!!!

    Last year, we went to LOTW for muskie opener. Spent a week chasing walleyes and muskies.

    The first 4 days, we had 20+ fish follow to the boat, but we couldn’t get any to bite. On the 5th day, at one specific location, we raised 4 fish on a west facing sandy bay, with very subtle rock points and scattered cabbage patches.
    I had an agressive 46″ ski chase down my bucktail to the boat. Instead of figure 8’s, I ran a “NASCAR” circle, pulling good “Ls” at the corners. That pig followed my buctail for 6 laps before she lost interest, yet she had a serious case of lock jaw.

    As she slipped back into the weeds, I knew she was still “hot”, so I tied on a 6″ perch Jake. Casted it out and on the first retreive I was twitching the Jake HARD. About half way to the boat, I connected!!!!

    Here she is!!!!

    So, remember that on early season fish, a good crank, twitched can help seal the deal, when no other lure seems to be able too!!!! Also, when I say “twitched”, I’m talking twitching like you would a glider. Twitch hard about every 5′ or so, with a few good twitches. It seems to really get the fish fired up!!!

    Gary that was a well writen article, it brings back lots of memories for myself reading it. WELL DONE PAL! One thing that was not mentioned was the use of plastics. This can also be a great throw back bait to fish with lock jaw, anytime of the year. For people getting started I would tell you to get a few plastics, weather it a tube or thumper tail, they are amazing, and not to many folks are using them. Also great advise in KISS- keeping it simple is the best advice. Pick a bait that you have confidence in and it will catch you fish, keeping that bait in the water is the biggest thing. I fish with someone(Dan)…. the bait switch man, who spends a lot of time digging in the box. Changing baits can be good at times, but I am more of a believer in keeping that bait in the water as much as possible. Again great info for the newbies to the hunt. Good luck to all this year…… FLOG FLOG FLOG
