    Hello In-Depth Outdoors,

I know there were people that were requesting links to our “report” that I presented at the walleye searchers meeting in Rochester at the beginning of the Feb. Our 2012 reports won’t be finalized until mid-May sometime, but I did make a PDF of my presentation with attached notes that should help explain some of the figures etc.

I am attaching it here so that you can post it so people have some idea of what we were seeing.

As always I am happy to answer people’s questions if they get a hold of me at the office, or see me at the bait shop at Evert’s. (Edit: Nick is a tall guy. If you see someone ducking to walk into the bait shop chances are good it’s Nick. Introduce your self and say hi!)

    Thanks,

    Nick

Personally, I’m very excited to see our MN DNR employees reaching out to us, the fishing public in so many ways over the last few years.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness in making this information available Nick!

I was at that meeting,it was interesting to listen to him talking about my home fishing pool,It certainly gave me a new perspective of pool 4 and the walleye fishing there.

Interesting to see the highs and lows. And the size numbers. That’s a lot of research compiled there. Thanks for posting that.

I am curious if creel surveys show an increase in catch/keep

on 15-17″ Sauger? It was generally thought, with the Sauger “explosion” 4-5 years ago,P-4 anglers keep those size sauger for eating and CPR more walleye.

My P-4 plan since then is to keep sauger under 18″ to take home… and have a White Bass fish fry during our trip. Had to C/R a LOT of smaller sauger to get those sized fish last year.

    Mike…

I wasn’t at the meeting but gave the doc a very quick scan. It appears that walleye populations and recruitment are stable and in good condition. But it also appears that sauger populations are below target and declining.

What did Nick have to say about sauger? Did he express any concern? or suggest explanations for their deline?
