Well the report is a week late but I thought I’d still share it. I took my boys up for a couple days to the Bowstring area for some fishing and camping. This was a first for them going on an overnight fishing trip and I think they were just as excited as me.

We ended up fishing for perch, crappies and walleyes (and were dealt numerous hammer handles as well). We found the perch and crappies up shallow with plenty of bass sitting on their beds. The perch bit a little more readily for us but the crappies cooperated also. Water temps had moved back up to between 62 to 64 degrees and the fish bit well on artificials.

The walleyes weren’t nearly cooperative as the panfish were. The late afternoon period yielded our fish and numerous small northerns as well. This provided action for the boys which was key to keeping them engaged.

Overall, great trip and one the boys are still talking about!

Great time with the young ones. I got 3 grandsons coming up and can’t wait to get them out.

8 & 5 are their ages. My oldest has been joining me since about that 2-1/2 yr old age. Biggest thing is letting them decide the length of the outing and what to fish for. Snacks, snacks and snacks can extend an outing as well!
