One thing that I was surprised to see is how many MN twin players choose not to stand out on the field during the national anthem. More surprising is the excuse the twins gave. The majority of NHL players are not American and I have never seen a player at least not on their feet during the national anthem.
May 22, 2015 at 8:07 am #1546498Australia has the right approach to immigrants. You are free to enjoy their country, but English is the language, God is part of the country, guns will be allowed, and if you do not like it, you are free to leave.
What is different here ? Is someone forcing us to speak something other than english ? You can worship any “God” you like in the USA ? I have 18 guns personally ? And yes, you can leave if you’d like ?
(thank your god that America is not like it was when it was founded, it wasn’t all flags waving and parades)
May 22, 2015 at 9:08 am #1546514you don’t today, but with the amount of immigrants that are coming to this country, they sure do appreciate it. I am just guessing your ancestors who immigrated would have loved it if they could have communicated better with their fellow countrymen back then.
May 22, 2015 at 9:21 am #1546515Probably, but by not having the “press 1” button made them learn that they better how to understand English.
If I immigrated to another country the first thing I would do is learn their language and not expect them to learn mine.
I’m just sayin.May 22, 2015 at 9:40 am #1546517Most do not realize in order to become “citizens” they need to learn to read and write english ?

I thought the “excuse” was fairly reasonable. With all the other ceremonies and events that now preceed the games, they have no idea when the anthem will take place because it is different every night.
I love catching the anthem before an event. Hockey, basketball, football games, it isnt a problem. I cant remember the last time I saw one at Target Field. It must happen 15-20 minutes before the game starts.
May 22, 2015 at 10:24 am #1546525What really irks me is people that wear hats or text on their phones during the national anthem. Go to any HS sporting event and you will a lot of the student section and even a few parents doing it.

Across the world, Americans are not liked, for various reasons. In the attempt to be a global economy, the government tries to appease to other immigrants feelings. America today, is not the America our forefathers fought to free and forged the Declaration of Independence for.
Australia has the right approach to immigrants. You are free to enjoy their country, but English is the language, God is part of the country, guns will be allowed, and if you do not like it, you are free to leave.
Sad thing is, we will not lose this country by war or any fight for that matter, we will either be bought out by China, or we will become the minority as non Americans out populate us, sorta like an invasive species taking over an ecosystem.
At some point, I forsee Americans needing to rebel and take the country back. Revolutionary War 2.0. Most likely will not happen in my lifetime, but on the current track, We won’t be flying an American flag in the distant future, unless someone steps up…
Who exactly is ‘we’ when you say that? I think the diversity in America is a wonderful thing and something to be celebrated. In my mind that IS America, THE melting pot. America isn’t about ‘speak our language dagnabbit you foreigners’, it’s about the freedom to make your own choices and the opportunity to make a good life for you and your family, regardless of your background(we can argue whether this American dream is still alive or not perhaps). I suppose it was only English speaking white dudes who defended this country in WWI and WW II? And the same group in Vietnam, Korea, etc?
Maybe it would surprise you to find out that there were ~500,000(18% of the total fighting force) immigrants who fought in WWI under the American Flag, from 46 different countries? Or in WWII there was over 500,000 hispanics, 12,000 Chinese, 20,000 Japanese, 20,000 American Indians, 11,000 filipino, 50,000 Puerto Ricans. 22% of the total male Chinese-Americans at the time fought in WWII. Do you think all those people spoke English? HELL no. But they fought and died alongside a lot of english speaking white dudes, that’s for damn sure. Was their sacrifice somehow less than the english speaking, ‘traditional’ Americans?
Who exactly are we going to have to take America back from? The Muslims? The Mexicans? Please tell me. So they are all moving here to turn America into the place they risked their lives to get away from? It’s definitely out of the question that they moved here because it’s offers them freedom and the chance at a much greater quality of life. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but America wouldn’t be standing free today if it didn’t accept immigrants with open arms.
But now that we’ve won all those big wars and we have all the fancy weapons we need to close those doors and keep it all to ourselves, that sounds…not American.
God is part of the country? Apart from my feelings and my religious affiliation(Christian), let’s advertise freedom of religion as long as it’s this one particular religion? Sounds NOT American.
Back to this thread’s original topic, everyone should be free to fly an American flag in this country, and do so proudly. But this is a typical overblown news story that really tries to stir up controversy over nothing. America still exists, and on the whole it’s still probably the best place in the world to live and grow up.
May 22, 2015 at 3:36 pm #1546584Can we at least ask for our “student loan” money back from those ISIS members?
May 22, 2015 at 11:10 pm #1546631Wow. One thing is evident! We all love and exercise our “Freedom of Speech”. God Bless You, and may God continue to Bless America. For those things I pray! Thank you Active Servicemen and Servicewomen and Veterans!!!! I love you all! I had the privilidge of taking care of a WWII European Theater Veteran today! 3 years in Europe without a visit home. The Greatest Generation.
May 23, 2015 at 9:51 am #1546645I am NOT offended by the flag. I deeply love and appreciate everything it represents. I am however offended by how the Carolina student is displaying the flag on his truck. In the picture I saw it is clearly resting on the side of the bed of the truck. The U.S. Flag is always to be flown aloft, never touching or resting on anything beneath it.
The flag is also never to be displayed in a way where it will be damaged or soiled, and attached to a pickup traveling at freeway speeds it is likely to be damaged.
May 23, 2015 at 7:03 pm #1546679Ya Rob, I know a guy whos name is Stan Richardson and I’ve worked for him and his wife Georgie 4 or 5 times over as many years. He was a gunner then a bombadire on B-17 over france and Itialy, both are very nice people, talk to an old couple if you can because they have plenty to say. We got to talking about his time in the air force and he went right in the house and put his air force hat on, good guy he is and hes right at 90 right now.
