This past ice season I helped some anglers out this year and must say it was very special memories for me. young and old. The best???? heck they all where. Unfortunately this year my time out on the ice will be limited and I will not have much time to share my joy of ice fishing much. I hope some of you will step up this season and make some dreams come true for those that need a liitle help.

The pics are a memory from start to finished result. My buddy just wanted to catch a legal eye this past season. The morning started out from a 18 1/2 to a 26 to end the evening with a 28 1/2. That was just the start of about 7 different anglers that got there best walleyes while spending time with me on the ice. I do not guide for pay so these outings are that much more special to me because I did it for the joy of fishing and not the almighty dollar.

For the sport and yourself take the time to lend a hand to help someone.

Here is the last 2. Didn’t have a pic of my neighbors fish and have shown plenty of my son’s pics in the past.

Some nice fish there for sure!
You may not guide for money but you certainly appear to have
enough skill to do so if you chose to.
    A job well done sir!

Over the last few years I have been trying to take more and more people out on the ice myself, with the highlight being last year when I started helping a high school ice team. This year I am really excited to help them out again but also to get my daughter to catch her first hard water fish. I couldn’t agree with you more, helping people out on the ice is very rewarding even if the fishing isn’t as good as you hoped. It doesn’t look like anyone you took out is complaining about the fishing though, those are great fish and it sure looks like you could do some guiding if you wanted.

I’ll be introducing son #1 to ice fishing. He’ll be 3, so I think he should be able to crank a reel. He came out to the house with me a few times last year and was really interested in the fish, but wasn’t able to do any fishing.

Son #2 is only a month old. My standing rule is that if the whole kid can slip down the hole, he stays on dry land.

Them pics are just a sample of what we got into last year. I lost count on how many where iced that where in the throw back part of the slot that where between 20-28″s. I was very pleased with the way my son handled having to throw back a 27 1/2.

As far as guiding goes just wouldn’t be my cup of tea. I get to choose who goes with me not the other way around.

Easy and satisfying to help even a stranger on the ice. I was leaving a spot last year after a good/very good day on the ice. As I was leaving I noticed a young man who had come out but stayed a respectful distance away. I know he saw me catching a number of nice crappies. I approached him as I was leaving and asked if he had any big orange Purists. He showed me his tackle box. All he had was small bluegill type jigs. Told me he was a local college student and was not familiar with Purists, the spot we were on, or the shallow water crappie bite. I gave him my only remaining big Purist, and showed him the slo-mo-drop, and before I had walked 30 yards toward my wheeler he yelled to me and held up a slab. His big grin was all the reward I needed.

I hope I can be so lucky to help some less fortunate people out on the ice heck now that I have a power auger I might just take a can of gas out for the weekend and drill holes for people tell I turn blue in the face god knows I put in my time hand drilling last year so I know it would be a good start….

And Duke I would like to thank you I was once that patient kid off in the distance trying to learn the ways of the wise ones and have had a few good ones offer what I can only describe as golden knowledge to me now and helped shape me into the fisherman I am today ) I am hoping someday I will have that opportunity to see someone light up knowing there is a whole new world to explore and experience

While we all develop our own unique twists, most of our knowledge was shared with us from someone else.

Duke you nailed it. I have been very fortunate to have had help over the years. I really enjoy helping others that have an intrust in learning how to find spots to fish not ones that are just trying to hoard in on my spots. In return some have taught me different techniques or baits of there choice that have made a difference.
