Are we still ice free?

Wanted to scout a lake for ice fishing-this metro lake has a launch in a shallow basin you go threw a wide channel to the main lake-afraid that the shallow basin and/or channel is frozen. Might just go out and look at it, we are supposed to get warmer this week so it should stay ice free if it is now-right? Kinda bummed that I’m not fishing this weekend-the other issue I have is I wonder if I might have a problem with an icy ramp, tires are only so so, have an all-wheel drive Pilot. Well shoot for next week I guess.

The 4 lakes I can see by us were all locked up but up in Itasca county.

The lake I live on in the Alexandria area was mostly iced covered yesterday. The wind opened it up today. Was hoping to be fishing by next weekend!

All the lakes down here south of Prior Lake area are open water, some of the bays have some skim but nothing substantial. Even saw a few boats out today.

Definitely will not be driving on ice anytime soon down here.

Rumor was there was a few venturing out on Wahkon Bay late Saturday or early Sunday before the wind blew the ice back in. Someone’s always gotta be the first… shock

Would actually still like to fish open water for a couple more weeks, surprised to see this get bumped to ‘Ice’-want to scan some lakes for crappie spots and would even try one south of the cities that is supposed to be great for walleyes this time of year (might skip the walleye one because the launch is shallow and I suck at catching walleye!)

Sorry Tim, I misinterpreted. Lotta threads starting now asking about ice starting to setup and I thought this was another one.

FWIW, there is and will be for some time plenty of open water opportunities. South of the cities can stay open for weeks after the northern lakes are being ice fished. Always the rivers too. smile

Rogers on Red Lake is reporting 3-1/2 inches of ice via his Facebook post
