While there are good sucker runs in the spring, I have never heard of the blue sucker, then again I only know a hand full of guys that catch sucker during the run. You could contact the DNR here in Eau Claire and ask the wardens if they know, I would think this would be the best place to start. I would have to agree with you on the Chip in general, it is a wonderfull river….

    Thanks BigPike,

I have already done that research actually. The DNR has actually shocked them up in certain locations. They are actually on the endangered list which means it is illegal to possess one, however, I think you can catch one and take a picture and release it. They get quite big actually (up to 36″) and the Chip is suppose to be one of the last bastions of Blue Sucker waters. I am hoping for some first hand accounts from locals here.

Accidently snagged one of these in April of 07 by the YMCA. It was about 30 inches long dark blue with little white bumbs all over it. Sure put up a good fight on the 6′ light action St Croix.

Thanks WallI! Would that be in Chippewa Falls or Eau Claire? Do you remember if it was early, mid, or late April? I’m thinking they were on their run at that time. Was it caught out of fast current? According to my research, they love to be in fast current.

    Thanks again for the info.

It was mid April during the Ray’s Fishing Tourney in Eau Claire. It was on the fast current side of the river on the same side as the YMCA. Good Luck!

    Thanks Wall I!
I know exactly where you are talking. That is very fast water there. I think there is a ledge there that drops off into a deeper trench. The little white bumps(tubercles) do mean they are spawning.

I am out of the country until 2012. Please let me know if hear anything else. I am just trying to cut down the learning curve a bit.

    Thanks again!

Well are you going to share your life list with us or keep us in suspense? I would think the next three years will be very good to your list! Do share!

There used to be a really cool website where you could post pics of your life-list and compare yourself with others until they changed the format and it just isn’t the same anymore. My friend, Outdoors4life, is working on a lifelist section for his website but it is not up and running yet. I have too many pics to download on this venue to show its entirety. So, I recently posted my idea on the general forum here: http://www.idofishing.com/forum/showflat.php/Number/722269/fpart/1/get-a-lifelist
I think it pretty much explains itself. Until my friend gets his online Lifelist up and running, you will have to wait. Sorry.

So like have any of you really wanted to pound a loud-mouthed [censored]’in squirrel while up in your tree stand? And if that just so happened, what ‘tip’ do you use to this? (the little [censored] won’t go to waste, I tie trout flies during the winter months)

    RED squirrels!…. PAIN!
Had a Fisher Cat try and climb my ladder stand a week ago. He got to the second step on the ladder and I decided to shake him off. Those things are BIG! Best squirrel control you an have though.

I use the G5 small game head. I shoot them a lot. The nice thing with these is they don’t stick in animals or trees they do there damage with blunt force. Judo points work fine too. These are just way cooler.
