    Well guys,

This old dawg is going to park his green a$$ up in a tree next sunday for the first time.

I have been wondering, what is a basic check list to:

    1) do before i head to the tree stand
    2) bring into the tree stand with me

Bow, arrows, release/finger tab, binocs, range finder, safety harness, clothes and water. The rest you can walk back to the truck for later. But a flashlight, trail marking tape, headlamp and field dressing knife. GPS if you don’t know where you are hunting.

If I’m getting in a tree stand, I’m wearing my Muddy safety harness.

    Muddy

I love my Muddy, but there are a lot of nice harnesses on the market. Every tree stand now days even comes with a cheapo that will work. Just wear one my friend!

Toilet paper for when that first Pope an Young walks by. You will need to clean your self up .

Shower with scent killer body wash and make sure you have scent killer spray to spray down your boots and everything else. I would also wash all of the gear you will be wearing in stand with the no scent detergent. Play the wind, good luck!

Make sure the strap holding your stand on is in good shape. If there is any visible wear add another one. I carry way too much every single sit, you need a weapon and a way to stay safe (harness). Everything else is a bonus and not necessary. My most forgotten item is a headlamp for coming out after dark. I try not to use one when I don’t have to but sometimes you need one to find the trail. Good luck and have fun!

Here are some very basics I consider important regarding your two questions

    1) Before heading to tree stand
-If time allows, shoot a couple arrows
-Shower with scent killer, brush teeth with scent killer paste or no paste
-Check your initial wind at your parking site to ensure it is what was
    planned
-Spray down body with scent killer while dressing out side of truck
-Spray down all garments, bow, release, and all items bringing with while
    dressing into hunting clothes.

    2) Items to bring with into tree stand – These are what I consider important considering you already know your stand is in safe condition.
    -Safety harness
    -Bow, arrows, release
    -Range finder
-Face mask with some kind of scent killing technology (always wear over
    mouth)
-Small rope cut long enough for all my stands. This is sprayed down and
used to pull bow up into stand. Put loop on end to slide over wrist so you
have two free hands to get up and into stand. Reduces humbling while
    climbing and protects your bow.
-Small bottle of scent killer. Used to pour out and wipe down skin after
    Ive cooled down.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your night in the stand!!!

Don’t forget you license and a bonus tag if you plan on smoking a doe if you get the chance.

In the past Ive brought an extra arrow/tip for different animals as well. Ive shot multiple grouse with judos and Ive also taken a red fox(with the proper license of course)…this can make a slow night/morn. a little more interesting

    Hey Dave,

I was just thinking. Do you have any place close to home that you could do a dry run to be sure you are good with gear, shooting from an elevated position etc…

    Something to think about.

    Good luck!
