Finally put the hammer down on a buck after 3 years of eating tags. On the 3 previous evenings I had watched the same group of 5 deer feeding in the alfalfa just before sunset so I used my climber to get on the edge of this field where they were feeding . At 6:15 Sunday evening a doe wandered into the field in front of me and I took her as she fed 30 yards away. It was a pass thru and the lumenok glowed brightly as the arrow stood up in the alfalfa. She ran into the woods on the other side of the field and piled up 15 yards into the woods.
15 minutes later brought this buck, a smaller one, a doe and 2 fawns all out into the alfalfa below my stand. All 5 deer followed single file from the woods into the field, never seen that before. They fed 45 yards in front of me slowly moving my way. They all ignored the lumenok lit arrow in the field even though they were only 5 to 10 yards from it. As the buck moved to 3 feet from that arrow he presented with a nice broadside shot and the deal was done. He was a fat 200 lbs dressed, 18.5 inside width, 11 points including double split brow tines.
Now I can spend some time chasing walleyes for the next 7 weeks until gun season.
