September 21, 2012 at 1:00 pm #123573Unfortunately not much out there yet. I suspect every big deer media outlet is clammering to get the rights to this story.
September 28, 2012 at 2:49 am #124011The email with the first posted pix came to me stating that the gentleman is from the Kasson, MN area. Paid an outfitter down in the Rushford, MN area to hunt his property ‘for this specific deer!’
I don’t have a name yet, but after I heard what I just mentioned above, I didn’t really care anymore. Sounded to much like a ‘raised’ well ‘nutrient fed’ deer. Heard the fella paid just under $5K for the right to hunt this deer…
What a thrill to harvest a trophy like that, but for me it looses the right to be a ‘fair chase’ hunt…almost like the high fence hunts. Then the arguments start, as to whether these deer should even be in P&Y or any record book…I suppose it does belong, but something in me says it just isn’t righttapoutPosts: 309September 28, 2012 at 3:04 am #124012WEll if your info holds to which im guessing probebly does.,i agree 100% not a fan of that. anybody can pay somebody to shoot a world class buck if u have the money to afford it. Could care less about it now.
September 28, 2012 at 12:30 pm #124016So, I’ll throw this out there. I’m not being a jealous, negative nanny. As a matter of fact, I’ll be super supportive of anyone who shoots a trophy animal.
In a recent conversation amongst some friends, a theory was brought up. Remember a year ago, the young kid who cut a whole in the deer pen down in the Rushford area? He got caught poaching but in the mean time, two other trophy bucks escaped. Is there any chance this is one of those deer? I don’t know if the escapees were ever recovered.
Anyone with some local knowledge of those missing bucks? I’d think pen raised deer likely have ear tags or something to mark them, so it’ unlikely this deer is one of them.
September 28, 2012 at 1:58 pm #124018Since none of us were there and actually know. I’m just going to assume the guy is a good hunter and paid just under $5K to lease a piece of property from an outfitter because this deer was believed to be living on it. Him being a good hunter, he decides he’s going after this deer and this deer only. Planted his own food plots and hung his own stands cause he new the deer’s travel patterns and was rewarded with a buck of a lifetime.
Until we know differently, lets give the guy credit for making the shot when it counts. A deer of this calibur has a story and it will be told sooner or later, until then lets not assume the worst.September 29, 2012 at 2:01 am #124056Kooty n WT4E; I like your take/stance on the issue. And you both make excellent points.

September 30, 2012 at 8:55 pm #124097It appears to me that anytime someone shoots an exceptional Buck people assume that the kill is suspect I personally think that most all sportsman are True blue and until proven guilty deserve to be treated with respect… I know there are bad apples but until there is evidence of non sportsman like conduct I will consider it a legitimate kill.
