This is an email I received from my cousin. Can you guys provide some help? I am admittedly week when it comes to this arena. I pay a shop to setup my bow. BTW, my cousin called me PRO. You guys keep that in mind when you speak to me going forward.

John, Hey your the closest I have to a Pro Archer! I got a problem with the wifes bow. She was shooting a 2″ group with field points at 20 and 30 yards. Then we were setting up her hunting arrows and we put in the Nocturnal lighted nocks along with fixed blade muzzy broadheads and the arrows were all over the place.

So we tried to sight in to where those were going and then talking to Black Hills Archery they stated that with those broadheads the arrows needed to be Helical fletched. To do that we would have to change her arrow rest due to it being a capture rest.

Anyways they said to go to mechanical broadheads. We did and have been practicing with those and the arrows still arent hitting her spots. Took out the mechanical broadheads and went back to field points trying to get them to hit where we want and are getting close with a bunch of adjustments.

So I guess the only thing I can think of is to pull the Nocturnal Nocks out and go back to the standard nock and try sighting the bow back in to the mechanical broadhead.

    Any suggestions?

I recommended for him to go back to the original field point accurate setup. Then to make one change at a time. Start with the broadhead, a mechanical should have almost the exact same point of impact. Then if that is still good, then try the fixed head and see how they fly. If all is good, then try the nocturnals last.

I’ll see what he comes back with.

Sounds like it could be rest and possibly a nock problem. I know my hunting setup, the Montec and fieldpoints are same point on target but when I switch to Rage mechanicals they are low and to left. Any fixed blade broadhead IMO should have some helical fletch on the vanes. Have him go to http://www.bowtuningtips.com ,they have very easy to follow videos on all sorts of bow tuning stuff, easy to follow and not alot of technical banter. Good Luck

Sounds like a rest problem to me too. Between the added weight of the broadhead, change in aerodynamics, and the weight of the lighted nock. It’s a whole new setup. If they want to see their arrow, have them try fuzion vanes…. They are sweet! I might throw a video up some time soon….

I asked Marty at Archery Headquarters about going to a fixed 4 blade in 100 grain from a non fixed 3 blade 100 grain Muzzy broadhead. His first question was what kind of fletching I was using, I told him feathers, he said with feathers I should be able to shoot what ever I want with no problems.

I had the same problem with my fixed rest, went to a fall away and problem was gone.

I would start here and also and run a few through the paper…

Your problem!! Not the nock’s not the broad head and not the fetching.. Take it in have the bow tuned, basically you need to get the limbs right with the string.. the rest right to the string and then shoot the bow in front of someone at the shop that might be a competitive shooter.. this is the guy that can watch you shoot and help you fix any problems you may have in your form as a shooter.. couple hours at the shop and you will learn a bunch and gets years of enjoyment out of that education..

    good luck

I don’t think its the broadhead arrow fletching combo either because I shoot a 100 grain 4 blade muzzy with straight blazer vanes and it shoots the same as my feild points. I shoot a drop away rest and my bow has been properly set up and paper tuned. Proper set up goes along way, take it to a compitant archery shop and they will solve the problem.
