Selecting a New Bow

So, Spent some time shooting new bows tonight and really liked what I saw/shot. Now here is my problem…..How the heck do I decide which one to get?? For a mid-price bow, I really liked the Hoyt TurboHawk.
I also shot the Quest Heat and liked that too. However, it seemed to not be quite as smooth as the TurboHawk, but darn close. I think the difference maker there was the cam system on the Hoyt.

If I were going to choose between those two units I think I’d have to go Hoyt. Mostly because right now it is $150 cheaper for the bare bow.

Also wondering what other units you guys might suggest I try out. Looking for Mid-Range price point mainly. I am a smaller framed guy and will need to be set up for 27.5 draw

I think Dennis D is our resident Hoyt expert, but he is also very knowledgable on the whole archery market. I’m sure he’ll reply when he logs in today.

To me, it’s about getting what feels best to you. Can’t hurt to go to another shop if you can and shoot some other manufactures, if anything, it confirms your choice in the Hoyt.

Have fun, nothing better than buying new toys…I mean tools.

Thanks Kooty but far from an expert, just a guy that has owned more than his fair share of bows and is lucky enough to be working in the archery industry. Anyway, like Kooty said, it’s all about what feels best to you. the most important thing is to make sure the bow fits you properly. Sounds like your doing the right thing by shooting a bunch of bows before you make your decision. The Turbohawk is a great bow in mid-range market it’s basically a Alphamax only with a cast riser instead of aluminum. A couple others you might want to give a look are the Mission bows by Mathews, Diamond by Bowtech and Fred Bear. There are a bunch of other bows that might fit your needs like Martin, Darton and Parker just to name a few but might not be available locally to try out. Between Gene’s, Lakes Sports in DL, Delaney’s and Smokey Hills in Park Rapids, and Scheels, Outdoorsman in Fargo, should be plenty of bows to get your hands on. Good luck and let us know what you go with.

Yep, Lots of options to shoot close to home. I spend a lot of my summer around the becker area, so I have been venturing to St Cloud. I have shot quite a few now. Fred Bear, Quest, Hoyt, Diamond, PSE. So far the TurboHawk I liked the best, but I think that was because the grip feels the best to me. Which leads me to think that maybe others would feel better with different grips???

Mathews Mission Bow was rated best bang for it’s buck a few years ago! Make sure you take a peek at that, my brother loves his!

Your probably right about an aftermarket grip but keep in mind, you will probably end up spending $50-$100+ bucks on that grip. Not a bad bow made these days, buy the one that shoots and feels best to YOU.

Spent some time shooting bows again tonight
And I have to say, Thanks a lot ROB for suggesting that I pick up a Mission and give it a try. That thing was the biggest piece of………smooth drawing, smooth shooting, quiet bow I have picked up yet. And in that mid price point to boot. I shot the Eliminator II and so far, it is hands down the best feeling and shooting bow I have tried.

I have now shot bows from Mission, Bear Archery, Quest, Hoyt, PSE, Parker, and Diamond. 10 different models in all. I think I have it nailed down, now to decide how much to spend setting it up!
