Anyone putting on their own wraps and fletchings? Doing anything cool and custom? Let’s see some pics if so.

I’m thinking about trying this out. Seems like a good hobby to pass the time in the summer while practicing shooting in the basement.

    Kooty,
I’ve been doing my own fletching and wraps for a few years now. It’s a lot of fun and saves some money! Battledrumwraps.com you won’t be dissapointed.

I’ve got 2 Bohning fletching jigs mounted on a 1×6, I can rip through a dozen arrows pretty quick. I also made my own arrow saw which is nice to have, saves time and money. Now I just have to bulk order shafts, I use Bowhunterssuperstore.com, cheapest prices I’ve found.

I knew you would reply Brian. Are you aware of any how to fletch arrows for dumbies books? I’ve tried doing some online searching, but I’m confused by a lot of the terms. What is helical, offset this or that. Trying to figure what the heck all this means.

    Thanks!!

    John,
This sounds funny, but I actually learned how to fletch by watching a few YouTube videos, there are some really helpful videos on there. The “helical” is basically how the vane is placed on the shaft at different degrees. In a nutshell, the helical determines which way your arrow will spin. A lot of it is personal preference.

The best way for me to learn was practicing a few times on a junk shaft I had laying around. Pretty soon you find your own way of doing it.

I forgot to add, the fletching jig takes all the guess work out of it. Simply turn the knob and it rotates the arrow another 120 degrees and lines up perfectly for another vane/feather. The main thing is to make sure you apply the glue properly and make nsure the vane is seated evenly and cleanly along the shaft. Seriously, it’s dummy proof!

I’ll second BattleDrum Wraps. They’re great. Kooty if you want to learn to do your own Fletching just ask next time you’re at Joe’s in Anoka. They’ll show you and even let you use their stuff if you buy the Vanes and glue from them. They’ll even help you out when you first start. Thats how I learned.

About 2 years ago, I bought some Gold Tips online because my shop didn’t carry them. I brought em in to be cut and fletched and paid 36 dollars!!!!! I can now literally cut and fletch for pennies. Plus it’s nice to not have to rely on the shop to “get around” to your arrows. Satisfaction that comes with doing it yourself is nice too. Let me know if I can be of any help!

    Scott,

If I get going on this, I’ll definitely put together some small video clips I can share here with everyone.

Worst case, it will he a how NOT do this or that….
