    Hey everyone,

Got my new bow, Rytera AlienX, all setup for me last weekend. Started shooting in my basement. I can max out at 19 yards, shooting through a framed up wall. Waiting for that first YIP and see where that arrow ends up…

I’m obviously getting used to a new bow and getting my form down, new release, new release point, new sight picture etc…Oh, I’m shooting right handed, but left eye dominant.

As of now, I’m hitting a 2″ circle 95% of arrows. It usually takes an arrow or two to get “warmed up”. I’m assuming with repetitions, this will get better. I’m also not sure my focus is 100% when I let the first couple fly.

First, is a two inch circle at 20 yards considered good, bad or average? I’m happy with this accuracy, but to be honest, I’m not sure what this bow and myself are capable of. I’ll be darn happy to pull this off at 40 yards as consistently as I can now.

So, what are you personal standards for accuracy?

Once you get that 2″ circle at 100 yards then call me! Seriously though…that is very good for just starting out. If you start shooting regularly at longer distances (30 – 40 – 50 yards) then you’ll be able to tighten that circle even more at 15 – 30 yards. Aim small / miss small! It will take time but what a great way to spend the afternoon or evening!

Sounds like your doing great to me. How big of a bulls eye are you using now? Try making it smaller and see if your group tightens up. It helps me alot when I shoot in my basement. Or outside for that matter.

Kooty also try 1 shot sessions Go to the basement shoot 1 shot and quit then come back later and do it again Focus on that 1 shot and make it count

Sounds like you’re right on track. Something that really helped me with accuracy was to start shooting spots. I used to think that I was dialed in when I could group all my arrows into a 3-4 inch circle at 20-25 yards, but spots really make you focus more on the fundamentals and form I think. I now put a small orange sticker on my deer target, and really try to hit that spot everytime. In reality, if you miss that sticker by a little bit in the field, you still have a dead deer!

This is good advice. If you have The BLOCK… start shooting for the top of the spots or diamonds, then the right side, left side, bottom… Not only will this save you some knocks and possibly some vanes and arrows, but shooting at a “spot”, literally the size of the arrow, will really help you with target recognition and concentrating on your target. Oh and have fun !!!

My new favorite spot to shoot at is a lighted bobber battery. Fun at night and I can’t wait to hit it square on and see it go out, only nicked it so far
