Went to Wisconsin Rapids with my kids this weekend for the State Indoor Archery Tournament.

The youngest son (Grant Schleusner) shoots in the Professional Division as a Staff shooter for Matthews Bows. Second year in a row, he shot a clean 300 with 60 x’s each day, total of 600/120x’s to win the division title.

Grant was instrumental in getting his 11 yr old nephew Mitch Schleusner set up a month ago to start shooting indoor. Mitch is shooting the Matthews Menace, and Grant used a lot of his extra equipment to set make a good setup for him. Mitch sot in the cub division against boys that have been shooting for 3 years at a minimum, some up to 5 years. He shot a 297 with 35 x’s on the first day, and a 298 with 38 x’s on the second day, for a total of 595 with 73 x’s. He finished 4th, just out of medals in the Championship flight…but we are all so proud of how well he did. I shot in the women’s division, first as an ameteur, then a pro, in the LTD (finger release) division, and my all time high score after many years was a 297….so I know what his scores mean at this early stage.

Both Grant and Mitch are leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow for the World indoor tournament, and then to KY in late March for the National Tourney.

Nice shooting. I’d love to shoot as good as Mitch at my age .

That is phenomenal shooting! Especially in tournament conditions.

30 years ago I shot for Hoyt in the NFAA indoors as an amateur and later for Mathews on the early 3D circuit. I shot in Bowhunter Freestyle but only shot a few 300s in tournaments in my 20 years career…my best X count was 52, which gave me the Michigan State Indoor Championship in 1988.

Both boys are off the charts!

Your sons have really got something “special” going…Congratulations!

Thanks. I shot Ameteur for a couple years (just about 30 yrs ago too) for Astro, then shot as a pro. I have 3 national medals and about 15 each of state indoor and outdoor first place trophies……but I shot freestyle ltd, finger tab, and my highest score was a 297 I think, maybe hit 298, but never could get the x count very high. And I stuck with the single spot target, that 5 spot just threw me off. Grant started Mitch on the 5 spot, so it’s pretty natural for him. I’m just seeing that he will be in the 300’s before the year is out…….then next year…….look out x’s.

The damn 5 spot cost me also in 1989…I tried switching because of so many banged up arrows on the 1 spot. I was shooting clean through the 9th end (Indoor Championship) when we had a breakdown on the line…we waited about 10 minutes and I went up there and shot the lower right bull AGAIN!!!! Aargh!!!
    I would have had a 300 with 53 Xs…

I have known Grant for many years, a true professional in character and a good friend and team mate of mine. My daughter and I were shooting on the target 28 on Saturday both Mathews Staff and it was great to see your grandson shooting next to us.

On Sunday it was a great time with Grant, Duane and myself all shooting in line – except I had a little mental glitch half way thru the game, but that’s another story for later.

Congrats you have a great family that represents the sport of archery and the industry behind it for what it really is.

Jessica and I head out Thursday early am for Vegas also

Jeff, sorry I didn’t know a fellow IDO member was there. All the archers have always been a friendly bunch. And, yeah, I do think my sons and grandson are the best, but then I might be biased. Good luck in Vegas. Post your results when you get home.

We had a great time, lots high tense competition, many vendors and sponsors to visit with and many sights to see while in Vegas, Jessica loves to shop and go to all the cool places.

Jessica shot a – 300 – 296 – 296 out of a maximum 300 possible points each day she ended up taking first in the 3rd flight, Adult Freestyle Flights men and ladies mixed, and a check for $975.00

    I shot a 296 – 298 – 298 in my class – 6 arrows down all weekend 1 was a real nasty glitch that dropped 3 points

We really had a great time, and I was glad that many of us from WI. were able to get together Sunday night for supper, which adds to the camaraderie of the event.

I would like to say that after having an arrow rest possibly jammed a little do to airline flights that Grant shot very well with a 299 – 300 – 300 – if I am not mistaken.

Grant is an awesome archer a great friend and team mate; he is very capable of shooting a complete game with his arrows hitting the same exact small arrow holes, arrow after arrow – awesome stuff for sure!

Congrats on some great shooting again Grant and see you Saturday at the Sectionals

Thank you June for posting Grant’s and Mitch’s archery accomplishments. It’s great to see the tradition being passed on to the next generation. It sounds like they had a great teacher! Please keep us up to date with their shoots.

Congrats Jeff and Jessica on your recent success! It sounds like you made the most of your trip out in Las Vegas. It must be a great time for the two of you to bond and while building some great shared memories.
